Changing course

Hi everyone.

I’m currently taking a gap year and I’ve applied for Law. I received all my offers already. However, I changed my mind and I want to do psychology. I already know what uni I want to go to. I don’t want to take another gap year and apply again. Is there any way I can change my course now?

I THINK you should be able to withdraw your whole application and still have time to reapply if you're quick! If you submitted your application less than I think 2 weeks and haven't received offers you should be able to just swap it out but you won't be able to change your personal statement. If I were you I’d withdraw and reapply asap before the ucas deadline!

Do you want to do Law at one of your existing choices or another uni?

Would I need to do my personal statement again? And I’m not sure if I can get another reference from my old sixth form as well

You can use the same reference I think and with the personal statement you'd need to make a couple of changes (mainly because it’s for a different subject) but it shouldn’t be too hard! If I were you I would do it, if you don’t want to take another gap year or spend 3 year plus a bunch of money studying a subject when you know you’d rather be doing something else. If not, you could always go through clearing or try switching courses when you’re already at uni but it’s a bit risky!

Sorry, mistyped the subject. Do you want to do Psychology at one of the unis you have a Law offer from?

In that case the easiest way to swap is to contact admissions at Newcastle and ask whether you can switch courses. The earlier you do this, generally the better.
