Do you need to attend applicant days?

I got an invite to an applicant day at this uni and its a really long drive. On top of that, it's not my first or second choice. Is it compulsory to go to applicant days?

Unless there is an interview or other part of the selection process, no, applicant days are not compulsory.

Do you have an offer from that choice yet?

No, but I do have an interview scheduled, though it's not joint within the applicant day

In that case I would ask on the interview day whether if you are successful they'll be an offer holder day later.

It might not be a preference now, but if your firm 1st and 2nd choice drop in your estimation it would be useful to attend something that gives you a feel for the place.

Hello,

It is usually not compulsory to go to offer holder days but I would strongly encourage you to go to as many as you can because it will let you see the University in a more usual state like what it may be during a regular day. Open days don't always give a true reflection of what a University is like because it is full of people and exhibitions where as at an offer holder day it is more specific to your department.

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions please do let me know.

It’s a very silly decision to turn down an opportunity to find out more about a university.

Even if it isn’t one of your top choices by attending you give yourself more information to make the right decision for you. AND if things don’t go to plan in August you have more information to make decisions about alternatives (even if it’s just being 100% confident that you don’t want to go to a specific university in any circumstances that is a very valuable use of a day out)

Hey @strawberryjess 🤗

I thought I'd also just jump in and highlight how beneficial applicant experience days can be! You can really get a feel for the university then and see whether you feel a sense of belonging and that you're in the right place. You can get hands-on with taster sessions for the course you're interested in - when I attended one for a media degree, I was able to practice being a newsreader and presented in a newsroom for example. It really allowed me to see whether this was what I wanted to do and allowed me to get a glimpse of the sorts of things I'd be doing as a student on that course. I was also able to speak to the lecturer and ask any burning questions I had!

You can also explore campus facilities and see the learning environment, speak to other students who study that course and ask them what it's really like studying there, and speak to support teams etc!

I know you've said this university isn't your first or second choice, but if you can do the commute and go, I'd definitely recommend it
