Asking for Advice <3

Hi, I’m currently an S6 and was hoping for some advise on university choices. I’ve applied for the MMath course at Edinburgh, Strathclyde, St Andrews, Heriot Watt and Dundee and have received unconditional offers from Edinburgh, Strathclyde and Dundee but my top choices are swaying between Edinburgh and St Andrews. Could anyone tell me about what student life at Edinburgh or St Andrews is like especially for Scottish students as not a lot of scottish students tend to get places there. Would I be better off going to one of my other three options? Are Edinburgh and St Andrews what they’re hyped up to be?

Thank you!
All your choices should have offer holder days in march-may to give you an opportunity to visit and speak to staff and students in person before you choose your firm choice.

I got AAAAB in Maths, English, Human Biology, Chemistry and Physics (in order). I got AAAAAA at N5 in all of the above plus french. I qualify for minimum entry reqs which is probably why I got Edinburgh when the entry reqs for Maths are AAAAA.

Physics was actually really fun! I thoroughly enjoyed like dynamics and space but electricity and semiconductors and stuff is quite tricky. My main struggles lied outwith school, which is what reflected on my grades as well as the fact the exam was in the first week of the calendar💔. Good luck for higher! it’s tricky but definitely gives you perspective

my assignment was on LEDs and determining planck’s constant if you’re doing anything similar and want to see! i got 24/30

was doing the practical hard?

was doing the practical hard?

the practical was determining switch on points of different coloured LEDs in a dark room with a paper funnel, take a note of it and calculate energy using E = QV (q - charge in an electron, v - switch on voltage) and graph the frequency of each colour LED (given to you) against the energy you just calculated. the gradient of the line of best fit is your value for planck’s constant.

the main issues with the practical is it relies on the human eye, but if you’re off but the same amount every time you’ll still get a close value to planck’s constant. you’re looking for the first sign of light at all, when it’s really really dim.

I know other people who done irradiance of a light source and others who done determining a value for G as well
