Student Houses

Me and a few of my course-mates are looking at student houses ready for next year and almost every house we are looking at have no bills included. I understand that bills will vary from house to house but I was wondering if there is an average at all? There are going to be 4 of us in the house in the Cambridge area if that helps at all.

Many thanks!!

Your Unis Accom office should be able to help you with this.

Hi @Ceza2024

A good way to norrow the estimate down is to get quotes. It is ideal to get quotes from a couple of bills package providers (if you want to use a bills package) or utilities providers in your area to see what your likely to be charged. Energy and Wifi will likely be the ones you are most interested in as most of the time you cannot choose your water supplier (you can find out who that is here). You have time to do this as often students wait until close to move in day to arrange utilities, but that is up to you and you flatmates.
Hope this helps

Hi there @Ceza2024 , if you have an idea of roughly where you are living, you can get a quote from energy suppliers when you type in the postal code of an address 🤗 You may want to do a bit of research into the various energy and water suppliers within your area and consider if you want to pay fixed rate for bills for unlimited energy (eg. Fused) or pay according to what you use each month. Factors like having a smart meter or a regular meter also makes a difference to the amount u pay. It may also help to check with the landlord, or previous tenants, seniors on which energy/ water supplier they used previously 😄
I hope this helps 🙂
