need help with firm and insurance :)

for pol/ir

York (BBB)

Lancaster, QMUL, Loughborough and Southampton (BBC)

- For some reason I'm leaning to Southampton as my firm but would that defeat the purpose of a Firm and Insurance? and what would I put as my insurance that would still be a safe fit? Any help and recommendation's are welcome

- Living costs are also a factor living in Yorkshire but i dont know i think my sister being at york is also putting me off as we dont get along.

Definitely firm the one you would most like to go to. Afterall, that is the ultimate aim.
You can have an insurance that is the same if it is more likely to lower its grades on results day to fill spaces. However, which that would be is much harder to predict!

You won't see your sister unless you actually want to because Uni is large enough to avoid. QMUL will definitely be pricey, in London.

You still have plenty of time to think this through (maybe go to some offer holder days) but I would pick the two places you most want to study at above any other consideration.

If you make So'ton your Firm, then pick an Insurance that would be more likely than So'ton to still take you even if you messed up your grades. OR - remember that you dont have to have an Insurance at all, and Pol/IR would probably be in Clearing at totally acceptable Unis so you could still pick up a place in August.

Hi @EthanMcGrath_22

It's great to see you are considering Southampton! I study PPE here so I study some modules in the Politics and IR department. If you have any questions regarding Politics and IR at Southampton or just Southampton in general, I would be happy to answer!

I recommend putting top choice what uni you would prefer, because ultimately if you achieve the grades that will be the place you will be allocated. You could put your firm and insurance as both having the same entry requirements, as it might be that one ends up being more lenient on the day. Also, it is worth considering there is always clearing if you change your mind, and want to go elsewhere.

In addition, most universities hold offer holder days to help you decide. Southampton is holding offer holder days early this year, and you should have received information on how to book onto one.
