I believe I am well equipped to answer this question because I in fact study Economics in Y13.

The truth about Economics which I've heard a lot of people talk about is the fact that it is much more useful than Business and, if I'm honest, I agree.

Economics looks at the specific (Microeconomics) and national/international economy (Macroeconomics), plus it includes several business topics such as economies of scale and business structures.

As far as difficulty goes, I wouldn't know about that as I've never done Business Studies myself but I am predicted an A/A* in Economics. What I will say is that Economics isn't too hard, as all the topics have a link with each other so it's pretty simple to transfer knowledge from one topic to the next.

To summarise, you wouldn't be losing out on anything if you chose Economics instead of Business for A-Levels. In fact, you'd be gaining as - as aforementioned - Economics is more useful.

Hope this helps!

it depends which exam board but for AQA which I do you have a couple of short questions, a nine marker, a 15 marker, a 2 25 markers for paper 1 and 2. paper 3 is 3 mcqs and then a case study with a 10, 15, and 25 marker

As an Economics student in Year 13 too, I agree with what is said above but I want to add that please do not be put off from doing an A Level because people say it's hard or different from what you are familiar with. Probably heard this a billion times but every A Level is demanding and requires a lot of hard work and effort.

The people I know who do both Economics and Business, claim that Business is pretty boring to them and relatively straightforward. That could mean that you can get a good grade but that could me that you neglect revising it as you see as "easy" and not do as well in exams.

From personal experience, Economics is tough but it is incredibly interesting so even revising it, keeps me engaged and motivated to do well in it. Also, the maths in A Level Economics is mostly GCSE level, even a lot of GCSE Foundation Level. There are some new aspects but nothing with particularly complex Maths. However, I have been told that Economics gets far more Mathematical at Uni.

might be a bit late, but im in year 12 and do both business and economics. In my opinion, I think both subjects are quite interesting, and not much of the subjects overlap, but the concepts in a level economics are slightly bit more complicated in comparison to a level business. both are great subjects though!
