Need help with psych BSc uni options!

6 current possible options are:
- University of Birmingham
- University of Exeter
- University of Sheffield
- Cardiff University
- University of Southampton
- University of Nottingham

I need opinions on what uni to get rid of because I genuinely have no idea. Of the 6, which is best to remove?

Several important things to consider -

The usual advice with your 5 choices is to 'spread' the entry requirements to give the best chance of offers.

1 choice just above your predicted grades - one grade and not in a vital subject.

3 choices at your predicted grades - these are your most likely offers.

1 choice well below your predicted grades - your potential Insurance choice.

Look at the course structure for each Uni - and the optional units in all years of the course.
What would you actually choose if you went there? Can you do optional units within other subjects? Etc.

If possible, pick courses with a work placement or study abroad - these add enormously to your graduate CV.

What are your top priorities for a place to live for 3+ years?
Any particular hobbies or interests?

Hello @conversational-c!

I agree with @McGinger's comment in the sense that it would be helpful for you to look into the structure of the courses in the 6 universities you have listed. Likewise, is there a chance for you to visit either of them? I think it is highly advantageous to see the campuses and some places where you could be potentially living for the next 3-4 years.

All the best,
Abian.

Thank you, this has been helpful!
I was a bit hesitant to add a choice that is above my predicted grade. I do international baccalaureate - my predicted aggregate higher level score is an 18 and the entry requirement for psych at KCL is 19. Would that be suitable for my above predicted grade choice?

One choice like this is fine - Unis do sometimes make 'aspirational' offers and this can be enormously motivating to really work for the grades needed.

Presumably you meet their subject requirements at HL?

I suppose a big thing would be the overall 'safety' of the area as well as cost of living and acessability to facilities in terms of transport.
I am a pianist and visual artist, so creative spaces are quite important to me.

Hiya!

Wish you the best for your choices! Unsurprisingly, I'm probably going to give a biased view of Cardiff haha but I'll just share some of the reasons why I chose Cardiff! Hopefully that will help inform your decision

Course-wise - I thought a lot about work opportunities since psych is a competitive industry. Cardiff ended up being one of my top choices when I went to an Offer Holder day and they told us that they basically have a big contact list of placements/organisations for placement year. So, career prospects/opportunities might me something you may want to weigh up when choosing your unis!

City-wise - I wanted somewhere that was affordable. Cardiff is pretty affordable, and you pretty much spend no money on transport since everything is close by, even city center. It's pretty safe too, I've found.

I saw that you are pretty artsy, which is really cool! I recommend having a look at Music Society if you were interested in continuing the piano at uni. I will say as well, a lot of university-based choirs and music groups like to collaborate with pianists, so there's the opportunity for that!

In terms of visual arts, there's of course your usual university art club etc., but in general Cardiff has a massive creative community, especially around and near Capitol Mall. I recommend having a look at SHIFT Cardiff (they do a lot of visual art and music-based stuff) and Umbrella Art Collective. Very cool stuff!
