Accounting and finance

Hi

I am looking to do accounting and finance at edge hill In September but I’m not really good at maths not gonna lie as I only achieved a grade 4 at foundation. Would I be better off not doing a course like this if I’m not great at mathematics.

Universities set entry requirements partially to ensure that success applicants will be able to handle the course. For their Accounting and Finance degree, Edge Hill say, "You will also need GCSE Mathematics and GCSE English at Grade C or Grade 4 or above, or equivalent" (see here). So they believe that you will be able to cope with the maths content.

You may find that you struggle with it, compared to students who are stronger at maths. But then they might struggle with some aspects of the course which you're happy with. So don't second guess yourself. If you meet the requirements, and are interested in the course, then apply.

Thank you very much for the advice I just don’t wanna hate my decision further down the road as I’m already studying a law degree in my first year that I already hate

I'd be a bit nervous of starting and struggling. Especially so if you haven't studied anything numerate for a while. Could you get a load of practice and see if you can get to grade 6 standard before the course starts?

I highly doubt but I think I could push for a grade 5 at most

What it is about your Law degree that you hate? What makes you think that you might enjoy Accounting and Finance?

I’m not sure it’s just a degree that I believe that may open doors in a lot of sectors that may be beneficial for me in the future. Honestly the thing about me is that I truly struggle to find a degree that I enjoy I don’t see a degree that I look at and think that’s amazing and completely aligns with me.

Do you think that accounting is the right choice for you? Its not very mathematical but does use numbers and formulas all the time.

You answered the question about why you want to do Accounting and Finance (opening doors / being beneficial in the future). However, the same can be said of your current Law degree, which you're not enjoying. That's why I asked "What it is about your Law degree that you hate?", as whatever you dislike about that course might apply equally - or even more so - to Accounting and Finance.

If your objective is a degree which will "open doors" and "be beneficial for me in the future" then you have that already - in a Law degree. But that's clearly not working for you. I'm just trying to avoid you jumping from one degree you hate into another degree you might hate. If enjoying your degree is a criteria (which it seems to be, seeing as you said above "I’m already studying a law degree in my first year that I already hate") then you need to work out what you would enjoy studying.

What I dislike about my law degree is the reading and overall content I am not someone that is really interested about the law as much as I I thought I was or whether a prior case would determine a current matter. I think I would rather learn about how a business operates and the finances regarding businesses. I just think I’m better off doing something else than a law degree that I dislike due to the aspects that I had mentioned as it does take a lot of time to read and Analyse and apply if I have a general dislike regarding the content.

Understood. Thank you. Having looked through the modules in Edge Hill's Accounting and Finance degree (which you mentioned in your original post), I think it might suit you desire to learn about "how a business operates and the finances regarding businesses". It also doesn't looks too maths heavy.

Thank you very much you have really helped me and I appreciate it very much. in addition I forgot to mention I think I am better off doing business and finance as opposed to accounting and finance as I don’t really want to be an accountant and I think potentially if he do opt towards the route of an accountant I may be able to do so through a business and finance degree but I’m unsure.

But I am aware the both module in edge hill that being accounting and finance or business and finance both have modules dedicated towards accountancy which I don’t mind at all

That's funny, because I almost suggested exactly that - given that you've said you're interested in "how a business operates and the finances regarding businesses". I just didn't want to confuse things by suggesting a course other than the one you said you liked the look of, so decided against suggesting it.
