EPQ references

Hi! if i want 70 references, how many articles should i read?

Hi!

If the article is its own independent views or perspectives then it would be a single reference. However if the article discusses other pieces of work, studies, or other views then they can be referenced separately.

Ie; if I wrote an article saying:
“Fruit sales across London markets is the most important economic factor.”
You could only make one reference here because I am the singular source of this information.

However if I wrote an article saying:
“The London Mayors office has shared statistics showing that 60% of profits come from sales of fruit at London markets. John Smith from the financial research institute commented that “blah blah blah””
Then you could reference the London Mayors Office, AND John Smith from the institute as they are 2 separate sources in one article.

So the answer is; it completely depends on the article, its content, its sources, etc.

Hope that helps

Obviously I don’t know your exam board, but for AQA the word limit for the report is 5000 words and you get penalised if you go way over it. So I would caution that if you use 70 different references, you risk either going over the word limit or not sufficiently analysing all of your sources. I think the recommended number of sources for the report is 20-30.

wow, I know someone who got an A* doing AQA with 70 references and my teacher recommends 40-50 so i was aiming for around 60 but now I'm not sure.

Do you think they may have meant they originally researched 70 references, but didn’t actually talk about them all in the report?
