Law/criminology offers please help

i have been given an offer to study Law with Criminology at UEA and Criminology at the University of Manchester and i’m not sure which one to pick. If i did Criminology at UoM i would obviously need to do a conversion course so is the prestige worth it? I also live much nearer UEA but I’m not sure if that’s a positive or negative.

Congrats on two good offers.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to prestige. I suggest that you study what you are most interested in, and choose the university which you could see yourself most enjoying.

Manchester is a large and interesting city. Norwich isn't as interesting, although its medieval centre is attractive, but the Norfolk countryside and coastline are great. Being close to home is good if you like your family, as a quick trip home every now and then can assist with the stress that university sometimes involves.

If you later seek to become a lawyer, it's likely that many of the places you apply to for training positions will recruit university blind.

Hi there,

Congrats on your offers! I study at UEA so can offer some insight into campus life, etc.

The most important thing, I think, when choosing a uni is that it feels right and you can see yourself living and studying there. I highly recommend attending as many open days as you can, for example the next UEA Open Day is in July but we also offer mini-open days as well. Open days will give you a chance to speak to current students, which is where you can ask about prestige and the conversion courses. Prestige isn't everything! For instance my economics masters course constantly has employers coming in to talk to us which is great for networking and my future employment.

I love UEA as a place to live. The campus is beautiful and so full of life and Norwich itself is a really nice city with a great selection of shops and eateries. How far away are you from UEA? I lived 90 mins away and found my parents could get to me a lot easier than my sister who went to Winchester! It meant I could see them often if I got homesick. So for me, this was a positive, although I appreciate it can be nice to have that independence.

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any more questions!

Good luck,
UEA Rep Grace
