Independant student finance query

Hi,

So i have been working for over 3 years full time, however i live at home with my parents but earn a full time wage which i use to support myself, paying for my car, food, personal bills, etc. Will i still classify as an independant student for my student finance application? I am 21 years old, so not old enough to be classed as a mature student.

Advice is much appreciated

Hi Saskia, you can still apply as an independent student even if you are living at home. As long as you have 3 years (prior to starting your course), showing you have supported yourself for the period. Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason, thanks for getting back so soon! That’s great news then thank you, i did want to ask what documents are required to prove I’ve supported myself for 3 years? I have some P60s but I’m missing others due to working a few different jobs, would i be able to use the income summary from the HMRC portal to demonstrate my earnings?

Thanks

Hi Saskia,

Yes, you can use your HMRC statement of earnings or three P60's or final wage slips (that have your total income to date on these). When is it your course begins? Thanks, Jason

Thank you. You can upload this to your account once you submit your application (they go live in the spring) and just include a cover letter stating you are looking to apply as an independent student. Thanks, Jason
