Interruption of studies

Hi, I suspended my second year studies at university due to mental health reasons. I’ve completed my first year and suspended my studies on 20th December 2024, which means when I return in September this would be my gift year. I just can’t wrap my head around some of the funding when I go back and how that process even works, I have some questions around it.

When I apply for student maintenance will I still receive money for the whole academic year (including term 1 - 25%?). Also I received 60 days of funding due to it being for health reasons.

How do I apply for my second year of study if my current application is suspended? (which would be 2025/2026) Do I continue with this current application or do I make a new one starting from 2025/2026?

I’m just really confused, stressed enough as it is.

Many thanks

Hi there,

If the university have sent over a 'change of circumstance' confirming your suspension is a 'health suspension' then we'd assess you for the 60 extra days of funding.

You would reapply for 25/26 when they go live and the university will confirm your resumption to us when you return. Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason,

Thank you for getting back to me,

Student finance have reassessed my application and I received an email telling me that I will receive 60 days of funding. But when I return to my studies this September will I still get maintenance loan for the first term or will I not?

Thanks

Hi there, yes, if you are studying in September then we'd award you funding for the full year. Thanks, Jason
