Tutoring assistance

Hello! I am a personal tutor and I have just been assigned a new student that has been out of school since year 8 (they are now year 11) but will still be sitting GCSEs this year. I have four hours per week with them, two of maths and two of English, and was wondering if anyone has advice on how best to bring them up to speed fast! We are going to go through KS3 and KS4 maths revision books, with online exercises assigned as practice in their own time, but English is going to be a challenge. Luckily, the student loves reading so that should be achievable mostly out of lesson, but there is still a lot to go through. Three full texts for literature, as well as the anthology of poetry, and English language alongside this. Is this an impossible task? Could anyone advise where best to focus my efforts if so? All of my prior students are still in school and our studies focused around the curriculum so I have never had this pressure before! I hope someone can help? TIA

For English lit I recommend just reading and understanding absolutely everything on PMT notes. They are a lifesaver and after reading the texts should really be all you need. That then gives you time to go through model answers and how to structure the essays.

It seems like you have Maths under control, but to add I would go through every topic on mathsgenie (watch videos or teach the topics) and just go though the questions in there. It would benefit them to move on to past papers as soon as they have the content nailed especially since they have around the third of the time most of the other students have had.

Good luck! I wish both of you the best of luck!
