sociology alevel

hello, i already asked this question on another thread but didn't really get any responses. I have to pay for my alevel exams soon as I am doing self study, and want to ask for anyone studying or who have studied AQA sociology, what are the easiest topics out of the optional topics, as I haven't reached that point in my revision yet and want to know what people who have already studied them think. I don't have time before I have to pay which is why I'm asking, so any help would be amazing.

Hi, i’m in year 13 and studying aqa sociology.
In my opinion the beliefs topic is super hard with loads of content and not very interesting so don’t recommend that. Families and crime are my fav units personally. Hope this helps and good luck! x

Hi I was in year 13 last year for the optional topics I did stratification and differentiation I know most colleges do beliefs in society. My advice would be to search resources online such as tutor2u a level videos on the optional topics including the sociology guy on google and then decide what you might be more interested in, I hope this helps and good luck!

Hi there,

In terms of the optional topics for AQA Sociology, the easiest ones can vary depending on your interests and prior knowledge. However, many students find the following topics more straightforward to grasp:
1. Families and Households - This is often considered relatively accessible because it links to everyday experiences and includes familiar concepts like family structures, marriage, and childhood. There’s plenty of real-world relevance, which can make it easier to understand.
2. Education with Theory and Methods - Although technically part of the core content, students find it manageable because it’s covered alongside sociological theories. It’s also highly relevant for exams, as you can link it to other topics.
3. Media - Many find this engaging because it involves analysing trends and issues in the media, such as representation, ownership, and the impact of digital technologies. It’s quite contemporary and often links well with everyday knowledge.
4. Crime and Deviance - This is one of the most popular topics because it’s fascinating and overlaps a lot with key sociological theories like Marxism and Functionalism. Many students enjoy studying crime because it’s highly applicable to real-life situations.

Ultimately, the “easiest” topic will depend on what you find interesting and engaging. If you’re more interested in practical, real-world examples, Families and Media might appeal to you. If you enjoy theory and critical thinking, Crime and Deviance could be a good choice. Best of luck with your revision and exams.

i would say avoid stratification is extremely hard to self teach because apart from the tutor to you videos there are no resources.

I think families is great concepts are synoptic and there is a bunch of resources also pretty straightforward to understand.
my school do strat but if i had a choice i would pick media as it seems the easiet to understand. Looking at the papers I personally feel media would be the easiest for me.

Thank you to everyone for the help, it's helped me out alot. Just to clarify I only have to pick 2 topics - one from the first bunch (culture + identity, family + households, health and work, poverty + welfare) and the second bunch (beliefs in society, global development, the media and stratification + differentiation). From what I've gathered the topics with the most resources and easiest are family + households and media? However, family + households is an entire chapter whilst the other topics are just small sub-topics, so wouldn't it be best to choose the shortest topic? As if I don't choose family + households, there's an entire chapter I wouldn't have to study? Thanks to everyone again.
