Funding for adult nursing degree

Hi I did two years of an adult nursing degree I left in 2018 due to mitigating circumstances. I want to study adult nursing again. I have spoken to Universities and I would have to the course from the beginning again because of the time that has lapsed.
I know nursing is exempt from previous funding for doing it as a second degree but my question is would I get full funding again or will the two years I have done get deducted?

Hi there, what is the name of the university you are thinking of applying to? Can you please confirm the exact course title? Is this a Full Time or Part Time course? How many years is the course in total? When are you planning to start your studies? Thank you, Stephen.

Hi no I’m not
Hi there,

This course would classed as an exception course and we would not take your previous study at the different university into consideration when assessing your entitlement. You can apply for the Tuition Fee Loan, Maintenance Loan and Supplementary Grants if applicable to you.

Thanks, Drew

Hi I was basically worried because I have a place to start Adult nursing BSC Hons Adult nursing at the University of Gloucestershire in September I did two years of the same course at a different university I left in 2018 there were mitigating factors. I am aware nursing is an exemption course but people were telling me I would only get funded if I do nursing as a second degree. I didn’t achieve a degree so this will be my first degree and i will still get funding that’s correct?

Yes, that's right.

Because Nursing is an exception you'll be entitled to funding in all years of the course. You're also entitled to one additional year of funding in case you have to repeat a year.

Thanks, Graeme

Does the previous study rule not apply to nursing? SFE/SLC reps have advised on this forum that previous study of the same course is taken into account for midwifery and AHP courses. For example:

Hi there, we can not open links. Certain nursing courses (pre-registration courses) are normally exempt from the previous study criteria. If a student has previous study on an Allied Health Professional course (Nursing - Degree Level) and starts a new Allied Health Professional course this will not be counted as repeat study. This will be considered as a new course, so they will have access to the full package of funding offered by Student Finance England (as long as you are not already registered in this field. Thanks, Stephen.

That was my understanding intially, but then this is what was said in another thread a few months ago (hence the confusion):

Hi ,

Yes, Midwifery is an exception course but we do take previous study on other AHP courses into account for calculating your eligibility.

Thanks,
Calum

Hi ,

As I mentioned previously you are eligible to apply for funding but previous study on a Midwifery course will have to be taken into account when assessing your eligibility for future tuition fee funding

Thanks,
Calum

Hi Stephen
Just do clarify I did two years Adult nursing and I want to start adult nursing again at a different university. So I am definitely eligible for full funding because I just saw this on another thread;
“Hi ,Yes, Midwifery is an exception course but we do take previous study on other AHP courses into account for calculating your eligibility”

Hi there, where it is true that we take repeat study on Allied Health Profession and NHS courses (repeating on the same course year etc..) the student will only qualify for one additional year (repeat year) of full funding.

However, if a student has previous study on an Allied Health Profession course (previous course) and starts a new Allied Health Profession course this will not be counted as repeat study. This will be considered as a new course, so they will have access to the full package of funding. I hope this clears this up a little. Thanks, Stephen
