What is allowed and not allowed inside of an Illustration portfolio?

Hi, I'm currently in the process of working on my portfolios to apply to illustration courses however I'm now worried I won't be allowed to submit some parts. I've done some anatomy studies using greek statues which do show nudity. I really like these pieces and think they show off my skills nicely however I've seen on Leeds Arts University's website that they don't allow nudity? Does the same apply to Edinburgh College of Art, Arts University Bournemouth, Glasgow School of Art, and Nottingham Trent?

Also is it worth submitting pieces like general anatomy studies into an illustration portfolio? I'm pretty clueless right now about everything and I'm stressing about my college not submitting my UCAS applications yet, the portfolio submissions, and the deadlines coming up soon.

Any advice about portfolios would be greatly appreciated, Thank you

Generally they should clarify and email the unis application email if you're still unsure. If they don't allow it, just either crop the image or don't include them. For what i've seen in other applicant's portfolios they have nudity from the chest area but not anything below idk if this helps?
Hi Grace,

It’s great to hear you’re interested in pursuing Illustration!

We can only provide information based on our own portfolio guidelines that being said, we do accept anatomy studies as part of our portfolio submissions.

Most importantly, your portfolio should be a reflection of you as an artist. We love seeing a variety of work including illustrations in progress, your creative process and any other hobbies or passions that tell us about you as an individual.

For a more detailed guide, read our portfolio guideline for BA (Hons) Illustration. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact our Admissions team.

We wish you the best of luck with your applications!

Hi 😊,

It's great to hear that you're applying for our Illustration course! Drawn or painted studies are fine to include in your portfolio, it is specifically photographed nudity that we don't accept. Hope that helps. You can find more information in the 'Course specific guidance for examples of work' on this page https://www.leeds-art.ac.uk/apply/undergraduate-entry-requirements

If you have any more queries you can get in touch with our Admissions team directly at [email protected]. I hope that helps and good luck with your applications!

Thanks!

I’ve submitted all of my portfolios in the end and I think I’ve done my best with them. I’ve already gotten an unconditional offer from NTU for illustration already which has boosted my mood about everything
