Assignment

So i failed one of my assignments which was 10% of my module for my dissertation. So im in my final year, will i fail my module completely now? or will it just bring my grade down? if so by how much i’m getting 2:1s mostly so just wondered if this is going to massively impact me.

When they grade you, they normally give you a grade for the assignment. Since it's only 10% of the dissertation, I would pretty much doubt the grade would fail you for the module. I would go by the % grade that they give you and we can work out what grade you need from the entire module to get the grade that you want.
It's a setback, not a death sentence.

I don't know the specifics e.g. what grades you are getting in each module, how many credits are the grades worth, what your current grades in your final year, how much weighting is your final year worth, etc. If you want me to look through this, you would need to add a lot more detail.

Having said that, a fail on a 10% weighting on a module is unlikely to have a massive impact on your overall grade. It's not ideal by any measure and yes you should have done better, but again it's not a death sentence.

I'd recommend reaching out to your academic tutor or SU advice service about this! At my University, you'd have to resit the assignment and get 40% to pass the module, but it may be a different policy at yours😊

Hi there,

As the above said, the best option would be to ask your personal tutor!

At some Universities, you need an overall of 40% for the module to pass. In that case, losing 10% should be okay as long as you do well in the other components of that module.

At some other Universities, you need to pass each individual component of the module with 40% to pass the overall module. This would mean that although this assignment would only be worth 10%, if you didn't get at leat 40% on this then your whole module would become a fail.

Definitely speak to somebody from your course (tutor/course leader) to find out about this and discuss next steps, if it is the latter option and you need to pass every component.

Hope this helps - good luck!
