Salford University Architecture

Hi... My name is Tala and I'm international Student and I'm thinking to apply to Salford University course: Architecture

I opened their website and I saw so many Architecture courses like: Architecture Engineering, Interior Architecture, Architecture, and Architecture design and technology. So, I'm asking if anyone tried these courses or tried the Salford University please let me know from your experience how was it, was it helpful? Is it a good choice to study there? or its better to choose another University? I wanted to be in Manchester and the course Architecture. Even if you have a small answer I'll be very greatful for your help...

Hi @Tala_M

This is a really good question. I will try to help as much as I can.

I am a current final year undergraduate student studying Theatre and Performance Practice (so a little different from Architecture), but I thought I would tell you a bit about my experience as a student at Salford.

I really enjoy studying at the Uni of Salford for a variety of reasons:

1.

My course - I love the content and the fact we get to choose some of our modules in the second and third years, how practical my course is, and that the course has a real focus on gaining skills for employment post-graduation.

2.

The Location - Near enough to Manchester to get involved with everything a busy city like this has to offer, for example, shopping, eating out, and gigs. But far enough out of Manchester to have a green walk 10 minutes from my door.

3.

International Opportunities - I partly chose to study here because I had the chance to study abroad - I chose to attend a month-long Global Summer School where I was able to study alongside people from all-over-the -world in Canada last year.

4.

The Student Cohort - As a mature student I was keen not to be the only older student, but luckily the Uni of Salford has a diverse range of students from 18-year-olds to mature students, commuting to living away from home students, and our international and home students.

5.

Work Opportunities - My course allows me to work alongside my studies, I am lucky to work as a Student Ambassador for the university and often get involved with course-related job opportunities e.g. supporting role-play-based course assessments as an actor.

6.

Extracurricular Opportunities - There are always chances to get involved with things that interest you, e.g., the wide range of societies from the Football Society to the Taylor Swift or Mature Students Society. Or to learn a language alongside your studies.

I appreciate not all of that will be relevant to you, but hopefully, it gives you an insight into student life at the Uni of Salford.

It sounds like you have already looked in detail at the information about our Architecture courses online:

https://www.salford.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/architecture

I find the section entitled 'Course Details' helpful when it breaks down what modules are being covered in which years, it is worth comparing these between the variations of courses, for example, Interior Architecture and Architecture, some of these modules might be of more interest to you than others. Some courses share some of the same modules, too.
If you are in the UK, you are welcome to attend our next Open Day on Saturday 14th June.

Here's a link to our Open Days if this is useful:

https://www.salford.ac.uk/undergraduate/open-days

However, I know it's unlikely you will be able to attend an Open Day. Therefore, if you can't find the answers to your questions about the course feel free to get in touch with our Course Enquiries Team, who will be happy to help:

https://www.salford.ac.uk/contact-us/course-enquiries

I hope that helps a little. Good luck with your application and future studies.

Lucy ☺️

There is also Manchester School of Architecture - a school run jointly by Uni of Machester and Manchester Met Uni (MMU):

Hello,

Great question.

The purpose of an Open Day is for the student to have a look at the university they could potentially be studying at for the next 3/4/5 years.

There is no right or wrong way to go about an Open Day, but usually a student will go and listen to course sessions, which is basically a presentation delivering information about a course.

There is then opportunities to talk to current students about their experiences of a course and then the lecturers if they have questions for them.

Outside of the course you can also look around an institutions accommodation which you could potentially be staying in. As well as other areas such as the Students Union, Library or even the gym if that is what you are interested in.

Basically it is the opportunity for you to get a feel for the institution and to see if it is the right one for you.

They are worth attending if you can get to as many as possible.

Hello Tala, my name is Fátima, I also want to have the opportunity to study at this university but I can't enroll, it's difficult, and they as a university don't help at all.

If you missed applying at UCAS will Salford University accepts me if I applied at their website?

All undergraduate applications need to go through UCAS. The deadline for equal consideration is today. If you miss the deadline, you can still apply but you risk the course being full.

Hi @Tala_M ,

Unfortunately we don't have the ability to put you in contact with current students/alumni (we've not got a platform for that at the moment I'm afraid!), but our enquiries team would be more than happy to put you in contact with our academic team if you had any specific queries about the course - just drop them an email on [email protected] 😊

You've still got the chance to apply via UCAS at the moment - we're still taking applications at this point, so definitely submit sooner rather than later! The deadline on the 29th Jan was the equal consideration deadline, which means that if you apply before that date, UK universities have to consider your application, but if you apply after you might find that some universities will close their courses to new applications. We're still taking applications via UCAS for Architecture for all students looking at starting in Sept 2025, but double check any other universities you're considering applying for!

I hope that helps, if you have any queries let me know!
