PLEASE HELP - predicted grades

Chem: I got D in term 1, C in term 2. I’m revising a lot atm and am aiming for 95% + in my March mock, we have no other assessments after March, but we have an assessment in term 6 which I believe will just be like an end of topic one but I hope to get 95%+
Bio: defo A* predicted.
Maths: I got C in term 1, E in term 2. I’m revising a lot aswell and am aiming for 95% + in March mock, after that we also have no assessments until end of topic term 6 one but I hope to get 95%+, I’m thinking of doing maths AS too, in order to boost my predicted grade.
I emailed my head of sixthform about how predict grades are decided, he replied
All teachers will be using a holistic view of progress, so it is not all based on one mock exam.

Each subject will have their own system of which assessments they use to establish their predicted grades.

However, saying that, I would imagine the mock will feature quite high in terms of which assessments they use.

If I manage to achieve my desired grades, will my predicteds for maths and chem be A*??
Btw I wanna do med,AND I KNOW it’s a big jump, but I’m positive I can do it- hence been revising like crazy. Pls just answer the question.
Thank you

Most schools usually go off mock results, so I would assume that if you got comfortable A*s in both maths and chemistry that they would have to predict you these. The only exception, I would think, would be if you only just managed to get into the A* boundary, as due to your previous results being significantly lower than the A*, they may be reluctant to predict you the higher grade.

At my school, our predicted grades were almost entirely based off the mocks, however teachers were allowed their own input (I got a low C in philosophy, however I had been working at a B so my teacher predicted me this). Although some people exceeded what was expected of them with the grades, to my knowledge no one was predicted lower than what they achieved in the mocks, as my school considered this to be unfair.

Obviously all schools are different, but if you manage to get comfortable A*s in the mocks, then I don't see why they wouldn't predict you this. Could you possibly ask to do another test as well as your mocks and also do well on that? This would show your head of sixth form that you are really serious about these grades and that you don't mind doing extra work to show this? If you manage to make the jump to A*, I think that they will be likely to predict you this as it shows that you are obviously a very committed student.

I hope this helps a bit, it sounds like a very stressful situation 🙂

Is there any evidence that you can leap from the C/D/E level to A*?

As a teacher I would be very suspicious of a jump to 95% as someone that good would be consistent.

Most schools don'r enter students for AS now.

Yes, when I was getting C/D/E I was not revising and found hw difficult. Now I revise 10 hours a week per subject and find hw easy.

Firstly, you didn’t answer the question.
Secondly, if I put my own hard work and effort into getting 95% , it would be very unfair for a teacher to just assume I cheated. It’s understandable, 36% to 95% is gargantuan, but i don’t see why I should be shamed and classed as a cheat for revising 10 hrs of maths per week.

I can't answer your question as it's too vague and I don't teach at your school
.
A jump is suspicious - improvement should be seen in homework and classwork. Are you asking questions and getting great marks in homework on a regular basis?

We use 'working at' grades for predictions - an A* prediction would be given for months of A/A* work, bearing in mind that not much A* work is covered in Year 12.

Ok thanks. I understand.
I got 100% in 2 of my most recent hw. I haven’t really been answering questions in class as my teacher doesn’t usually ask us, we just copy of the slides and do our practice questions
independently. But from now on if i get top grades in my mock exam and end of term 6 exam, and continue to get 100% in hw, what do u think?

Also, do you think doing extra work and giving it to my teacher to go through would help?

Doesn't your teacher circulate and see how you are doing in class? That's important to me as I know it's your work.

Why not try to ask more questions - sensible ones of course - that's the engagement I'd expect.

I would not be able to say, as I don't work at your school so there is no way of anyone on here knowing the answer to this

I am not a teacher, but my grades are all A*(I take Bio, Physics, maths, FM) and for some tips and tricks, 10 hours revision on each subject is very poor. That is what I do after I already pre studied all the contents during the half term break, in fact, I study 49 hours a week so it is more than that, and trust me, all my mates who are sitting on all A* for the past two terms and all 9s for GCSE are either doing more or same as me. And A* is given in top % cutline as well so I can assure you that people who already has better grades are working more then you as well. Although I do understand that your standard might be lower, since you were not studying last few terms, I do strongly advise you to study more. At least 60 to 70 hours a week to catch up the BBE grade, which, frankly speaking looks almost impossible to make the jump, but if your will power is strong enough, I think you can definitely achieve 95% +, and if that does happen, it is quite likely you will get at least all A predicted if not A*. Just make sure you delete all your social media, games, youtube, etc. and be ready to study 16 hours every day during every half term break and Easter. Good luck mate.

Also, since you are going for med, just double check your GCSEs are good (non below 7 is ideal I believe, and 4 to 5 subjects with 9 would be fine). And your UCAT prep will take you some extra time as well(if your GCSE isn't good, you definitely want full score).
