ucl or bath

Hi I have an offer for ucl chem with management and waiting for bath to reply, but I’m very unsure between the 2 (hoping that I get an offer from bath 😃). Which one would be a better choice? I live in London and didn’t really want to stay here for uni, but I’ve seen that ucl is higher ranked and somewhat more respected?

UCL is so much more well respected than bath - you'll seriously get an edge by going there. bath is good, but fairly average compared.

Hi there,

To be honest, which uni is right for you may not be the right one for everyone, as its a very personal decision and theres a lot to consider.

There does seem to be a misconception that Russell Group unis are better than non-RG - whilst the RGs are very good unis, there are plenty of other unis not in the group which are just as good and if not better for some subjects! For example, Bath and UCL are very similarly ranked for Chemistry in the major league tables, plus all of Bath's chem courses have a version with a year-long industrial placements which some other courses do not offer.

Try to ask yourself which course out of Bath's and UCL's looks more interesting to you and which you would feel more engaged with and motivated to learn? Then try to ask yourself where you would rather live for the next few years - as you will know London is a humongous city, full of life, bustle and vibrancy; whereas Bath is a lot smaller, cosier and whilst there is still a lot to do, its a very different feel from London. Have you visited the open days? How do you feel about the campuses?

I would try not to be swayed by the Russell Group label or any stereotypes about what it means to be prestigious, and base your decision on which course is right for you and where you feel happiest being. However, chemistry with management is a great choice of degree which will open up a lot of doors whichever uni you go for in the end!

Wishing you the best of luck and don't worry - we WILL get back to you 🙂

Thank you!! I got my offer today and I’m very happy, I’ll definitely consider those factors and go to the open days again )
NOT UCL.
They have an appalling reputation for how they treat undergrad students.
You will just be a number - literally.
