Reading or UEA as my insurance?

Hello guys,

I have just received my last UCAS offer from Reading, however I don't know which uni to put down as my safety for an accounting and finance course, for context, both unis want BBC for me to get in. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Have you been to visit both unis? Did you prefer one over the other? Have you compared the course outline on their web pages? Again, did you prefer one over the other?

What are the grade requirements of your firm? Are you quite likely to meet your firm requirements (meaning Reading or UEA are only if things go very wrong) or are you quite likely to miss your firm grades, making Reading or UEA more likely?

In the recent past, Reading have ultimately accepted all offer-holders who achieved BCC or above (source):

In the recent past, UEA have ultimately accepted all offer-holders who achieved CCC or above (source):

So you're likely to have a little more "wiggle room" with UEA. Hence the questions above are the likelihood of needing to make use of your insurance choice.

Hi @gxbriel.chifan,

Congratulations on all your offers !

I would advise visiting both universities, if you haven’t already done so. Sometimes it’s easier to create a pros and cons list. It’s also a good idea to speak to current students, check out https://www.uea.ac.uk/ask-us.

If you are planning to visit UEA or Reading, you can always ask if you can speak to one of the course leaders. I would also advise getting in contact with the admissions teams, to discuss you options going forward. You can either email [email protected] or call us on +44(0)1603 591515.

Make sure you compare the course modules and the requirements carefully. At UEA our typical offers for Finance are ABB or a contextual offer of BBC. For further information here is a link to the course .

Finally, are you planning to live on campus ? Definitely compare the accommodation and the prices. if you are also planning to receive a student loan/ maintenance loan it would be best to use the official government calculator to work out how much you will have spare. Check it out here.

Again well done on getting this far, keep working hard!
Wishing you all the best of luck,
UEA REP Tiffany 😊

Good afternoon @gxbriel.chifan,

It's great to hear you have all of your offers back!

Choosing a university depends on what you want from your university experience. Every student wants something slightly different, such as lecture style or exam vs no exams. I always recommend you decide what you want from your university and write a list. You can compare the two universities to your own criteria; this means the university will be the best fit for you.

When I was applying to the university, I found it very helpful to attend an Open Day; however, for students who live far away or do not have access to an Open Day, there is a Virtual Tour which prospective students can look at from their homes. I highly recommend you have a look at the Virtual Tour; it provides an insight into the campus.

At the University of Reading, there is an ambassador scheme where you can speak to current students and ask them any questions about their course or life at university. There is an accounting student in his first year of university; his name is Navid, and you can ask him any questions you may have about the university and your chosen course. You can speak to Navid here.

I hope this information helps you make an informed decision and make the best decision for your education.

All the best,
Ella
BSc Ecology.
