CITY vs LSBU

Hey so basically I wanted to originally do accounting and finance however didn’t meet the grades for city to get into the course. Regardless I applied for accounting and finance at LSBU and Business with Finance with an additional placement year at City.

I received the offers to both and am confused on which one to pick to help me boost my employability chances after university, I would love to secure a graduate position. Can students from LSBU and CITY share their opinions and experiences regarding employment. Thank you !

Hi @Nnnfrgj thanks for your message we completely understand that it can be a stressful time trying to decide which University to attend. Both LSBU and City have great reputation for Accounting and Finance, so whichever university you decide to attend, it is safe to say that you would be in good hands!

We would recommend visiting both University Open days (if you haven’t done so already), to get a feel for the campus and meet tutors and students on the course.

Just to ensure you have some key about studying Accounting and LSBU:

- LSBU was ranked 2nd among London modern universities (The Best UK Universities guide, The Guardian, 2025)
- Ranked 4th among London modern competitors for Accountancy and Finance (Complete University Guide, 2025)
- Our graduates have secured placements and roles at MHA, Morgan Stanley, Ardonagh Specialty and Gallagher. Roles include Finance Analyst, Senior Financial Accountant, Internal Auditor and Financial Analyst.
- Our teaching team brings a wealth of experience to the classroom, from researchers to professional chartered accountants.

Hey! 😊

Congrats on getting offers to both, that’s a big step already! I totally understand why you’re feeling unsure right now, especially when you’re thinking about your future career and employability.

I’m currently studying at City St George’s, University of London, and from my experience, there’s a strong focus on career development and employability support here. For example, there are dedicated careers teams, placement support, and loads of networking opportunities especially if you’re doing a placement year. Being based in central London also means you’re close to so many major companies and events, which can be a big advantage when it comes to internships or graduate roles.

Since your offer at City includes a placement year, that could really boost your CV and give you solid experience before you even graduate a lot of students say it helps them stand out when applying for grad jobs.

I also really recommend checking out our Unibuddy platform. You can chat to current students and even some academics to get a real feel for the course and support available. Also, Open Days are a great way to visit the campus, explore the facilities, and speak to staff and students in person, they can really help you picture what studying at City would be like.

Whichever uni you go for, I’d recommend making the most of any support offered through career services, and getting involved in societies, networking events, and industry talks, they really help build skills and connections.

Let me know if you have any questions about City or what it’s like to study here, happy to help! 😊
