In my last year of nursing apprenticeship degree but failed my module from year 2

I’m currently studying a 4-year nursing degree apprenticeship and in my last year to qualify in June 2025.

I’ve recently experienced two bereavements that have had a significant impact on my studies. As a result, I failed a module in year 2 after attempting it four times and was subsequently asked to withdraw from the course.

Despite this setback, I’ve managed to pass all my other modules up to this point.

The university has informed me that I have the option to transfer credits, but I’m not entirely clear on how this process works. I’m concerned that I may not be accepted into another University.

I’m wondering if it would be possible for a university to accept me as a final-year student to retake the module from year 2.

Has anyone else had a similar experience to mine? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I’m sorry but could you explain why if you’re in your fourth year the uni is terminating for a second year module? Or have you retaken the module this year? Was the bereavement the cause of your difficulties in year 2 or now. To be able to appeal or persuade another uni to accept your transfer you would have to be more clear as to why over a 2 year period you haven’t managed to pass the module.

They initially allowed me to retake the module for bereavement, but I had to wait for a different cohort to start retaking it so I could attend the classes again. That’s why it took time, and they allowed me to continue the course while I retook the module.

However, I had another bereavement and failed the module again when I submitted it this time.

In total, I had four attempts. I fortunately passed my other modules after year two, but this one has been particularly challenging for me. My concentration levels have dropped since my circumstances and mental health has deteriorated.

Really sorry to hear about your losses. I’m not an expert but suggest you contact your student union representatives. The problem will be persuading any uni that after mental health problems that have caused you to fail 4 times, that you are now in a position to continue successfully. Do you have any medical documentation that will back you up?

Thanks it’s been really tough. I have had access to emotional wellbeing at work and had talks with NHS 111 and my GP. So I should have substantial documentation if required.

I have a meeting with my student support from my university today to discuss about my options or if they will allow me one more chance. If not then, I would have to withdraw and apply elsewhere.

Wishing you the best of luck. Your wellbeing is obviously the most important thing to consider but if you feel up to giving it another go then really give it your all to convince them that you can.🍀🍀
