choosing Between Imperial Medical Bioscience and Microbiology

I hope you’re all doing well! I'm currently at a crossroads and would love your input. I've received offers for both Imperial Medical Bioscience and Imperial Microbiology, and I'm really torn between the two.

My ultimate goal is to pursue a career in drug development and research or possibly delve into bioinformatics and bio data analysis. I feel that Medical Bioscience might provide a stronger foundation overall(and is more general wich is good considering im not 100% cierten what I wanna do in the future), but I’ve noticed that the Microbiology program offers courses in bioinformatics, statistics, and computational omics, which are appealing to me.

I also have some concerns about the perception of Medical Bioscience. As an international student, I've heard a few rumors that it might come with a stigma of being a fallback for those who didn’t get into medicine. I'm worried that this might affect my career opportunities down the line.

If anyone has insights or experiences related to these programs, especially their career outcomes and how they're viewed in the industry, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts!

My microbio offer is also slight higher(39 Ib with 7,6 at hl bio and chem) while medical biosceince is 38(6,6 hl bio and chem)

Hi,
It’s up to you and what you want to do. The microbiology course will be more leaning towards microbes (ie bacteria, virus, fungi ect ect), so even the omics and bioinformatics will probably be on the microbe side of it (I may be wrong on that, but since it’s a microbiology course, this is what I assume), however your bioscience course sounds more broad. From the sounds of things, and what you’re interested in, I would probably say go for the bioscience, since you’ll probably learn a little of everything. That’s what I did, and then when it came to my project, and my masters, I went towards microbiology. 🙂
