BTEC level 3 Engineering D*D*D*

Hi there, I am currently studying a BTEC level 3 in Engineering (year 1) , and am aiming high for a D*D*D*, however, I am struggling to do so, I have gotten Ds for all my assignments so far but this capping system is making things difficult. does anyone have any tips on how I can improve my chances? How many Ds for assignments do I need to get this?

Please, is it okay if I can see an example of one of your assignments at distinction I do a diploma in btec engineering and I'm aiming to get a DD. Cause none of my coursework has been marked yet and I don't have a clear idea on what it takes to get distinctions and we haven't been given proper worked examples

I’m in my second year it depends on which branch you pick once you finish your first year they give you an option between electrical and mechanical I choose mechanical and you have the same maths units and exam units but you have 4 units that are different one is mostly statics dynamics and fluid mechanics and the other is electrical component circuits and a few other I’m not quite sure I didn’t pick electrical but once your pick between these they remove one of your units for me it was unit 19. As far as tips make sure you do well in your exams as they are double units and they help your total points immensely and make sure over this summer you understand basic coding as it is fundamental for second year not matter what you pick and they exam is longer than first year and more complicated but to sum it all up make sure you put a lot of your focus on exams and it’s fine if you don’t get all distinctions I got accept into UCL for mechanical engineering and I got a D*D*D I missed out on a distinction on one of my exams you don’t have to get perfect D*D*D* they will accept you at most with less that is just what they accept

Ahh I see thanks for your detailed answer… I just got news that I missed out on one thing on a resub and so have been capped at the merit for a unit although I got Ds for the other assignments 🤦*♂️. If I do well on the exams is there any chance still of achieving a D*D*D*? It sounds ambitious but I’m quite determined.

Erm I might be able to but we’ve been warned by our tutors about ‘Turnitin’ the hand in software that would detect any other copies of it online, other than the one on word and mark it as plagiarism. You could ask your tutors for an example assignment? If not there might be some online

Hi,
To achieve D*D*D* in your BTECs, you will need to work hard and to really analyse your mocks and feedback to improve and refine your submissions. How to do this varies based on the different BTECs you are taking but here are some general tips to improve:

1.

Understand the Criteria: Break down the assessment criteria for each assignment and ensure you meet the Distinction level requirements.

2.

Feedback: Review feedback carefully and ask your tutor to clarify areas where you lost marks.

3.

Time Management: Plan ahead, so you're not rushing assignments. This will help you submit higher-quality work.

4.

Seek Help: If you're struggling with certain concepts, seek help early, whether from classmates, tutors, or online resources.

Improving steadily should help overcome the challenges and achieve the grades you need to get your University places
Hope this helps
