Has anyone done the BPC selection event for the University of Law?

Why not start a thread about that subject?

The entry requirements for a law degree are stated on the website of each university which offers such a degree. In the UK, you would need three A levels or equivalent. The grades required would vary between universities. No specific subjects are required.

Why do you wish to obtain a law degree?

Hi Karen!

That’s great to hear that you're interested in studying law! The entry requirements for a law degree at The University of Law (ULaw) are as follows:

A Levels: BBB

BTEC: DDM

UCAS Tariff Points: 120 (from three A Levels or equivalent)

GCSE: English Language Grade C/4 or above, or an equivalent qualification.

If you don’t meet these requirements, there is also an option to apply for the Foundation Year, which has different entry requirements and provides an alternative pathway into the degree. Best of luck!

Hello,
I have completed the ULaw BPC Selection Event and was successful in securing a place on the course to start September 2025.
So the event itself starts with a video from the programme lead, lasts around 30 minutes and informs you about everything the course offers plus info on scholarships etc. The lady who hosted my event then sent out the plea in mitigation papers via email and we had 40 minutes to prepare. You can turn cameras and microphones off during this time and come back on camera once your time is up. You then get put into breakout rooms with your interviewer.
The interview itself is videoed and takes around 15 mins.
The first 5 minutes are you presenting your plea in mitigation that you just prepared for, they will inform you if you have gone over your time but you can set a timer to ensure you don't run over. Some find this intense, but my best advice would be to watch the plea in mitigation final from speed mooting on youtube, it will give you an idea of timing and what is expected from you as they only had 5 minutes also.
Once you have completed your plea then you get asked a few questions by the interviewer.
My questions included:

Why do you want to be a barrister instead of a solicitor?

What is your biggest barrier to completing the bar course?

Give reasons either for or against: Cannabis should be legalised......I chose for, and then was asked to also given reasons against.

There were other questions but my memory escapes me....probably the adrenaline at the time.
All I can say is relax and enjoy the experience. Your interviewer is a human and very friendly, they want you to do well, just show enthusiasm and your commitment to the bar. Oh, and smile 😁
Good Luck x

Hi, your reply was very helpful !

I had a question about the plea in mitigation - do they provide all the info in the email- in particular the sentencing guidelines and do they tell us which like specific category the offence is? or would we have to search those and choose the correct ones to apply ? it would be great to know.

I'm also hoping to get into the September 2025 course hopefully !

They provide everything you need in an email whilst you are on zoom, so you get the set amount of time to read/prepare. You don't need anything outside of the materials.
Good Luck with your selection event. Which campus are you applying to?
