I studied at Teesside University from 2023 to 2024 on a foundation year and I want list some cons. (WARNING, a lot of these are my personal experiences and I'm not trying to deface the uni or discourage anyone to go here, you should be allowed to criticise where you have studied as you're paying almost 10K, even more for international students.)
King Edward Square is not worth £150 (£155?) per week and it looks totally different than what you're shown on the open day or on the website, we had so many issues with leaks, the fuse box, heating and the ovens. The beds aren't very comfortable either and its a metal frame single bed. The entrance to the house is very tiny and cramped and the kitchen is also very small for 6 people. The storage in the kitchen isnt very good either and was very strange, it was almost like they took a large wooden closet and added in some shelves for 3 people. and then the other 3 had to deal with small wooden cabinets on the walls. Also, the laundry room only has 2 washing machines and 2 dryers for all the people in king Edward square. Personally, I would pay an extra £5 or £10 and stay in Cornell.
This isn't the universities fault but Middlesborough is a very dangerous place and has a lot of drug problems. Its very unsafe to go out at night, especially as a woman or international student because people used to come up to me constantly and ask me for money or just be creepy even if I was with a group of friends and I have been followed a lot of times even if I'm with my friends, some of my international student friends have told me about receiving racism in broad daylight. It makes enjoying nightlife and city hard. The streets are also very unclean and dirty, outside of my accommodation there would be chicken bones on the floor a long with food boxes and wrappers. In the city the streets are also the same, litter everywhere and sometimes dry vomit stains on walls of buildings.
You'll usually receive a personal tutor, I liked this until my personal tutor was very rude to me and I never emailed her for help again. And one of the animation tutors is casually racist toward Asian and African animation by calling it primitive and called all the Asian students on the course 'Chinese' until a Singaporean student called the tutor out during class. Animation students have sent reports and complained about this tutors casual racism and unprofessionalism (And in general just being a prick) but the school has done nothing.
The food and cafeterias are really nice and good quality but its card only which can be annoying. The only place on campus that takes cash is the student shop or else you will have to walk to the store for lunch or dinner.
I think Teesside university is a GOOD university, I think there are a few bad apples but the other tutors are really helpful and kind and I've never had a problem with the security or staff of the Uni.
But that's it as I can remember now, if you have any questions about the Uni let me know and I'll give an honest answer.
