Are these good uni options my deadline is next week!

hi, I currently do business and law BTEC and I am considering going to uni to do law or law with criminology, preferably I want to do law with crimology. However in my first year I didn’t get the grades so I’m considering a foundation year, this is what I’m choosing
-Sheffield Hallam- law with criminology
-UWE Bristol- law with crimology
- uni of law (Nottingham)- law
- uni of law (Manchester)- law with criminology
- reading uni law

So any advice on these options would be greatly appreciated , or if you’ve previously been there to study these subjects as I am sending it off within a few days!!

Hi @Kira_xox

It's great that you're considering studying Law at university - it's such an interesting subject! Have you looked at the University of Essex? 🤔

You could study LLB Law with Criminology - we're ranked 9th in the UK for Law (THE World University Rankings 2024) and 15th for sociology (QS World University Rankings 2024) - and volunteer in Essex Law Clinic working on real-life cases, being trained and mentored by lawyers and practitioners outside of your lectures, gaining valuable experience. The entry requirements are DDM - DMM, and there is also the option for a foundation year. 🎓️

The University of Essex is just outside of Colchester, less than one hour away from London on the train (with three stations near to campus). Our Students' Union is amazing, with over 165 societies to join, a library (open 24/7), gym and sports centre (free if you live on campus), cinema, two bars and a nightclub on campus. 🌟

You can chat to current students on Unibuddy to find out more! 📱

Have a look at all of your options and choose what feels right for you. You've still got time, reach out if you have any questions and good luck 😊🍀

Hi there!

It’s great that you’re considering ULaw as one of your options! ULaw is a fantastic choice, whether you choose to study Law or Law with Criminology, and it offers flexibility with its foundation year option to help you build up the skills and confidence for your degree.

The Law with Criminology course focuses on key legal topics alongside criminology, exploring crime, criminal justice, and criminal behaviour. It’s a practical and career-focused degree, designed to give you transferable skills like legal research, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The course is ideal if you’re looking at careers in law or the criminal justice system, but it also opens doors to other fields like politics, journalism, and business.

ULaw’s Law degree is equally career-driven, giving you a solid foundation in all the core areas of law. Both options are designed with employability in mind, with pro bono opportunities, one-to-one support from lecturers, and ULaw’s excellent career services to help you with training contracts, pupillage applications, or exploring non-legal career paths.

What sets ULaw apart is its PEC Academic Model of Learning—Prepare, Engage, Consolidate. This approach ensures that you’re fully supported in understanding and applying your learning in a professional context. You’ll come to classes prepared, engage with the material during interactive sessions, and then consolidate your understanding through follow-up activities and one-to-one support from experienced lecturers.

Other highlights of studying at ULaw include small class sizes, high-quality face-to-face tuition, and all textbooks and materials included in your course fee. You’ll also have access to amazing pro bono opportunities to gain practical experience in areas like legal research, drafting, and client interviewing, which are invaluable for your future career.

Both the Nottingham and Manchester campuses are great choices. Nottingham has a friendly, close-knit student community, while Manchester offers the buzz of a vibrant city. Both provide excellent employability services, with tailored support to help you explore career options, whether legal or non-legal.

If you’re looking for a career-focused university that will support you every step of the way, ULaw is an excellent option. Good luck with your application, and I hope you’ll join us soon!

Hello @Kira_xox

It's great to hear you're applying to university.

All of these options sound great.

Choosing a university depends on what you want from your university experience. Every student wants something slightly different, such as lecture style or exam vs no exams. I always recommend you decide what you want from your university and write a list. You can compare the two universities to your own criteria; this means the university will be the best fit for you.
When I was applying to the university, I found it very helpful to attend an Open Day; however, for students who live far away or do not have access to an Open Day, there is a Virtual Tour which prospective students can look at from their homes. I highly recommend you have a look at the Virtual Tour, it provides an insight tot the campus.

At the university, there is a unibuddy scheme where you can message a current student on your chosen course. For LAw, there is a second-year student, Ali, who can answer any course or university-related questions you may have at the University of Reading. You can find Ali's profile here.

Please let us know if you have any questions; we will be happy to help.

All the best,
Ella
BSc Ecology.
