Harper and Keele Vet School Offer Holders 2025

Hey everyone,

Congratulations on those who have offers for HKVS!! You should be so proud of yourself!
I thought it might be nice to have this thread to talk about all things HKVS 2025... going to offer holder days? What host campus to live at? Ask current students questions etc...

Hopefully see you all there!

Hey I have a couple of questions if that's OK! As a mature student who's going to be in their early 30's, I was wondering if there are any mature students in your year? I'm asking because one of my worries is about being able to make friends/have a social life if I'm the oldest one there 😅 I was also wondering what the social scene is like around the area of HK as I know it's different than doing VetMed in a major city?
Finally, do you think it is realistic to try and have a part time job while studying or is the course too intense?
Thank you so much and good luck with your graduation!

I also am holding a HK offer for September. I’m 17 so all things uni seem like huge choices to be making right now😅 how does anyone decide which campus to put as preference? I’ve visited both campuses and tbf I liked them both. I’m also worried as I hate party’s so I’m worried about the social side- I know it will be the same anywhere I go! Thank you!

Hey! Yeah so I’m currently doing Vet Bioscience and just had an offer to study Vet Med as a graduate too, sorry if I wasn’t so clear! There are defo mature students on Vet Med, I’ve chatted to a few that are new for this year! Also remember on other courses at HA, you definitely won’t be the oldest here, there are loads of masters students and PhD students too! The social side of HA generally is just incredible! I love the campus vibe and how close everything feels, like a real community! There are loads of societies and clubs which are just great! I don’t really want to go to another uni! On an academic side, having the farm and being in a rural setting is so handy! I’m not sure about a job specifically on VetMed, I’m sure people do it, and there are plenty of places to work in Newport and on campus but it would entirely depend on how you manage your time! Hope this helps and hopefully see you in September!

I can’t speak for the Keele side of things but harper is definitely different to “newer” uni accommodation etc but it’s absolutely fab and it is exactly what you make it! Parties are enevatable at whatever uni you go to, and the choice will always be there to go or not or to drink! Harper has always felt safe x

I feel like I have been leaning towards harper as my preference anyway as when I visited I loved the campus vibe and veterinary facilities.

Hi I also have an offer for Harper Keele, I will be 22 starting the course and preference to Keele as I will be commuting from home. I am hoping to have a little Saturday job alongside studies ☺️

Does anyone currently at harper know what the accommodation is like? I’ve heard some things abt it not being the best… not a deciding factor for choosing the uni ofc I was just wondering what your thoughts and experiences with it were x

Okay so harper accommodation is what it is, but it also 100% is what you make it and it really dosnt matter once you make it your own space! There are some halls that are nicer than others but I have friends that were in all different halls in 1st year everyone enjoyed first year just as much! Harper catering is also really good and they try to use as much produce from the farm as possible so if your in catered accommodation you will be just fine. For reference, I was in court-side halls (Jerman)

I’m a mature student at HK (harper based). There are quite a few of us that are late twenties/early 30’s. One friend is almost 40. I would say most of the cohort are early twenties and some fresh from 6th form.

I work part time as a vet nurse, as do the other RVN’s. I have some friends who are also farm tech’s. So there are quite a few of us that work alongside studying. It is do able as long as you’re proactive and organised

I commute from Birmingham so don’t attend the socials but depends what you’re into. It’s rural at Harper so no major events in my opinion

Just wondering how people are making their decision on what host site to choose? I went to Keele for my interview and liked it, but haven't seen the HA campus to know which to pick.

I only saw the HA campus and liked it so i just went with that one, but i am from a farming background so the farm onsite seemed like a good place for me to be

Do I have to pick before I firm it?

Hi! I’m also a “mature student”, I’m 28 this year and been given an offer. So it’s great to hear someone else is in a similar position!

I’m planning on working part time around the course.

Re living for me - It all depends if my partner who is an A&E Dr can move his job closer to Harper or Keele will depend if I’ll live off campus or on campus? And I was wondering if there are any other mature students who have lived off campus, and if so, where!? 😄
