Hey! So your first undergrad (vetbio) can be funded by Student finance England (assuming your from England, not Wales or Scotland) and you can get tuition fee and maintenance loan.
Your second degree (VetMed) I believe you get maintenance loan, but not tuition fee, so that part would be self funded. Once you’re 25, SF is no longer based on your parents and so you would be eligible for the full amount (I believe)! I havnt got that far yet, not that organised!

This is very helpful thank you!

I would assume that how late you choose your host campus wouldn’t interfere with your chances of getting it, but I don’t know for sure. I’d love to know why the Keele campus open day made you so sure to choose it? I only managed to get a space on a Harper Adams open day so would love to hear how it went at Keele’s

Thank you. I really just loved the feel of the campus and the accommodation is definitely better than Harpers. Also, transport links (for me anyway) are much better as I have to get the train to stoke-on-trent then a 30 min bus out to Keele, but for Harper I would have to get the train into Stafford then a longer Bus/taxi (which are not well connected) out to the campus which when I live quite far away, is really not what I want. I'm also really into music/sport etc and the societies at Keele are much more my style. There is the obvious point of the vet school building being fantastic (although I liked Harper's too) and their teaching style is something I would really like. And finally, Im quite a quiet person and the lifestyle at harper seems to be quite Party-ish which I HATE but it seems more chill at Keele. I went to harper for the open day the Keele for my interview then Keele again for the offer holders day which cemented it for me. I used to be fixed on Harper due to the on-site farm but I now prefer being on a campus with a wide range of subjects( rather then just agri based) just so the type of people isn't as niche. I do honestly think it differs person by person but that's just my opinion x

No, but im not sure if it has to be firmed first which I haven't done. are you looking at Harper or Keele for your home campus?

I'm going to be 22 when i start at HK VetMed as my second degree. I was just wondering if anyone knows about any help that can be received/funding options (even if it's small help) to help fund tuition fees? Also, when you choose which campus you'd rather be based at, does that determine where you'll have most of your lectures, or is it more to do with accommodation? I take it after first year halls aren't an option anyways, so what are other peoples options for housing/ student accomodation around there? Because i was considering just trying to find some accomodation near Keele that isn't halls starting in first year? 🙃

What accommodation is everyone going to apply for at Keele? I’m having trouble deciding, it seems fairly limited for vet med students

I’m in the same boat, will be 22 when starting. At the offer holder day I attended at Keele I spoke to a lady at the finance stand to ask this exact question, it seemed there isn’t much help available but she said there’s little bursaries available for vet students to help with EMS placements (up to £1500 if I remember correctly) and that if you’re over 21 when starting the course we’re likely to get the full amount. I know £1500 isn’t too much of a help with how steep the fees are, she wasn’t a vet school specific person she was just general for Keele so it may be worth an email to the vet school in case there’s anything she’s not aware of but I would say it’s unlikely there’s any funding in place for students financing a second degree. Your question on which campus you’re based at, yes you’re at your home campus the majority of the time for lectures etc however there is a small amount of travel between the 2 unis if the facilities at the other one are required but your home uni provide a bus for the vet students to travel to and from the other campus. I’m planning to live at home and commute as I’m an hour away from both Harper and Keele so will see if that works first year but in terms of accommodation you definitely could live in student accom for first year but I’d assume there wouldn’t be many people the same age as you. It could be worth trying to reach out to other mature students to see if they’d like to find a house share near by, I feel like that’s the option I’d go with if I was planning on living there, would also work out cheaper than student accom on campus x

I’m going to be 22 when I start in September too  I’m planning on choosing Keele as my host site but living off site from first year with my bf to save on costs as a second degree student.

Thanks @lilcud for the info on EMS grants! I’ll have a look into it!

there is only three I think for Vet med students but Barnes seemed to be the nicest one out of the three. Is the applications for accommodation open? I am yet to firm my offer as I am still waiting on my 4th choice.

Yeah, I had the email today. Apparently they’re sending emails for accommodation applications in batches depending on when you firmed the offer

Ah ok. I could really do with firming my offer because no matter the response from my last choice I would firm Keele over it anyway. But I guess its just a waiting game 🙃

How did you indicate your preferred campus? I couldn't see where to indicate on Ucas!

It isn't on UCAS, the site preference form is linked from an email from Harper & Keele. Subject line Information on your application. hope that helps.
