Business Studies Alevel

Hi, I was just wondering if we really need to know ALLL the detail given in the revision guides (especially the CGP revision guide) for business. If I know like the general details, is it enough to do good?
I didn’t do business in GCSE, so I’m really struggling to do well in this subject. I’m scraping C’s when my target grade is a B, but I aspire to get an A atleast. But it’s really hard, what do I do?
Everyone in my class already has a general knowledge of the subject because they have already done the foundations of it in GCSE and my teacher teaches like everyone has done business studies before so I’m having to teach myself the content. Lol.

Any advice?

Learn what you need in the exam. This is the advantages/disadvantges/consquences/importance of something, depending on what it is. For example you can be assed to assess two Benfits of business Y operating in a niche market, you can be asked to assess the consquences of a business operating in a dynamic market and assess the importance of the cost element of the design mix. Since this is the knowledge needed in the exam you should create a document with all this information for everything and then revise that. This is not relying on one revision resource as it will lack the amount of info needed, it’s combination YouTube videos, textbooks etc to make a doc that has all the knowledge you need for an A*. Then you make the doc into flashcards and practice application and analysis through past papers.

Hi, year 13 business student here. I would say your application of the topics to your answers is more important than knowing every ins and out of each topic as there is quite a lot to revise. If you're struggling to remember a lot of content, I'd say get a surface level of understanding on the topics through watching short videos on youtube (tutor2u/bizconsesh/takingthebiz/business as usual). For concepts that have disadvantages/advantages, try and at least memorise 2-3 of each just so that you have variety to use in the exam without having to know so many. The structure of your answer is really important. Learn what your exam board wants you to write (example I use BLT structure for a paragraph/point). To aim for those higher band marks, remember to really apply your case study to your answer (using the facts and figures/objectives of the company/the company's name and product names instead of just saying 'good' or 'service'). Hopefully this helps! If you need any more revision tips feel free to reach out

Hi, I use mainly youtube videos for recapping certain topics or whole themes because I find them to be comprehensive. I watch the channels Tutor2u, TakingtheBiz, Business As Usual, Bizconsesh, and After The Bell, which all have pretty short videos from 3-20 minutes, which I usually watch on 1.5-2x speed. Tutor2u also has an online site with free sources on topics. Savemyexams is also a pretty good website, but I don't use it too often because I have the free version. I mostly use past papers to practice, which you can find for your exam board online

Ah I see, I was thinking just doing questions is the best approach as the content is pretty simple. Btw if you’re doing edexcel, could you please let me know how to answer the 10 and 12 markers?

Yes, I do edexcel. 10/12 markers are similar in structure, but I believe 12 markers have more marks for evaluation for focus on your counter arguments and your conclusion. You need 2 paragraphs, one on the first point of the question and the second on the counterargument/alternative choice based on what the question asks for. I use the BLT structure for this, but use a variety in connectives like 'As a result', 'furthermore', etc. Your conclusion should bring up a new point to support the choice you're making for your answer. It can follow the MOPS structure in which you talk about why you chose your answer regarding the Market, Opportunities, Product, and Situation. You can also add a 'it depends' sentence to balance out your conclusion to show the examiner you've considered other factors.

So in a conclusion could I say ‘overall the cost element of the design mix is important because of Y’s MOPS. This is because…. therefore…. However this depends on MOPS this is because. Therefore…

Yes, you can use that structure. Just make sure that you stay focused on the question and you don't need to make it too long. It should be the same amount of writing as one of your paragraphs or a bit less
