Amazon Retracted My Graduate Scheme Offer

Hi everyone,

I’m in a really frustrating situation and could use some advice. I applied for an graduate role at Amazon last year, successfully completed the interview process and received my offer on 15th November 2024. I accepted the offer and started the onboarding process, but after months of reassurances and steps completed, I’ve now been told that my offer has been retracted due to an "internal error in which I was sent the offer by mistake"

Here’s the detailed timeline:

Application and Offer:
I completed the interview and assessment stages with positive feedback from the interviewers.
I officially received and accepted the offer on 15th November 2024 by both phone call and email.

Onboarding Steps Completed:
I signed the stock letter.
I accepted the offer and recieved the confirmation
Completed the Personal Information Collection (PIC).
Registered on Amazon's onboarding platforms like Abode/Embark.
Received the welcome kit.

Delays and Mixed Messages from Support Teams:
Initially, I was told I would receive my Terms of Employment (TOE) after leaving my existing role at Amazon.
I was repeatedly reassured that there was no issue with my offer and was told to "be patient" until the rest of my contractual documents were issued.
I was initially told that the contracts weren't issued because of a technical issue.

Offer Retraction:
I recently received an email from the recruiter stating that my offer was retracted due to an "internal error" and that I was sent the offer by mistake.
Other Factors:
I had the option to start at a different Amazon location immediately 2 months ago but chose to wait a couple of months for the one near my home.

I’ve tried escalating this issue to various teams, including HR, recruitment and senior managers, but I’ve received no clear resolution. This entire process has been incredibly stressful and disheartening.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with Amazon or any other company?
What steps can I take to escalate this further and get a resolution?
Does anyone know if there’s a legal obligation for Amazon to honor the offer considering I’ve already accepted it and completed onboarding steps?

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Bump
Maybe worth going to your local Citizen's Advice Bureau and asking them for advice about whether they have any obligations to you in terms of the offer since it wasn't retracted due to any action on your part. Bring a copy of the offer and any contracts you were sent to go over with them if you do.

I'm guessing since you hadn't signed a contract at that stage you might be limited in what you can do but hopefully the CAB might be more familiar with the employment particulars to be able to advise

I think this is going to come down to the small print in what they sent you, and what you signed.

I would definitely be seeking legal advice on this. I am currently training to be a Barrister after completing my law degree, I’ll be honest and say employment law is as murky an area as it gets, however, this does not seem like a genuine error. It is unreasonable to presume that all these stages have been actioned by mistake and I would be contacting a solicitor that specialises in employment law immediately.

Hi,

Thank you for your advice. Do you happen to know of any free resources or services where I could get legal advice? Unfortunately, I can’t afford a solicitor at the moment.
