Want to do Optometry at University

Hi !!

I want to do an optometry course at uni but I don't know if I'm going to be able to do it bc the courses I'm looking at either don't accept btechs or need me to have done a science at alevel.

I didn't get very good grades at GCSE (4s + 5s) and I'm in sixth form (year 12) rn doing Psychology (alevel), Applied Science (B-Tech level 3) and Health and Social Care (B-Tech level 3).

I know I have some time before I have to apply but I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to what I can do. I really want to go to a good uni and I am considering a gap year (but mostly likely I won't tbh). But can someone help me and is there anything I can do to get them to be more likely accept me ??

You mention "the courses I'm looking at" don't accept your qualifications and then say, "I really want to go to a good uni". Have you checked whether your qualifications would be accepted at any "lesser" unis?

Sorry, I didn't mean it in that way. I looked at all the options on ucas and there were only like 2 unis that would consider me (UWE Bristol and Plymouth) and I was just wondering if there were more options for me that's all. Sorry for the misunderstanding! (I don't mind going to those unis btw)

You could look at foundation years, or Huddersfield uni offer a science extended year which allows access to the optom course if you achieve a specific percentage. Cardiff offer a foundation year as do city university. There are many ways you could still do this maybe look into a dispensing apprenticeship uclan offer this then if successful they allow u to do there optom course.
