Question about starting an apprentership.

Do you have to start an apprentership after GCSE's or can you do A-levels first and then apply for an apprentership? (also: What is the different betwwen an A-level and an AS-level?)

you can start an apprenticeship whenever, there are also different levels of apprenticeship so there's level 3 (the same as doing 3 a levels) and then level 6 (the same as doing a bachelors degree). there's no age restrictions on apprenticeships but obviously if you had done a levels and then decided to do a level 3 apprenticeship then you'd kind of be overqualified as you'd have done that level already but that's not really stopping you from doing it. level 3 apprenticeship requirements are gcses and then level 6 apprenticeship requirements are a levels (or equivalent).

An AS Level is basically half an A Level and not many places actually do them anymore as they are kind of pointless.

You can start an apprenticeship after GCSE's and go onto a level 2 or 3 apprenticeship. The level 3 is equivalent to A levels so it's a good alternative. Even if you have failed your GCSE's you can take functional skills alongside the apprenticeship. Check out the apprenticeship level pages on urfuture, they tell you about the different entry requirements for each level.
