Personally back in 2019 I shadowed professors in UCL’s bioscience department. If this isn’t possible: ask around elderly day centres or care homes! This is what I did, gives a great insight to neurodegenerative diseases and how this country manages palliative care. Just a couples ideas, lemme know if you have any more questions :-)

would you reccomend this course - is there jobs. I feel so conflicted everyone is doing something clear like medicine and usiness/Tech and they have almost guranteed job security and im here doing something niche and new

I only just got an email last week saying there’s a delay in applications but they’re trying as hard as they can. I think they’re notorious for being a bit slow but it’s a competitive uni and competitive course so 🤷🏻*♀️

It’s great! Really interesting if you want to learn about different issues around healthcare eg health economics and financial distribution and politics etc.. I do the Bsc and that’s great too so you can link pharmaceutical knowledge to social aspects of health and there’s plenty of things that the uni has on to support careers fairs etc. I think it would link with any kind of biomed, applied medical sciences, population health sciences and sociology degree? Tbh for your personal statement I’d focus on like what you want to get out of the degree more than anything else? Since it’s quite an interdisciplinary degree you can’t tailor it to one thing specifically like medicine or pharmacy and I’m sure they’d understand that.

No worries, so don’t really follow my path because I’m a mature student and went through a completely non-traditional path to uni. I still did a levels of course but that was 4 years ago. So I applied to population health sciences at UCL, global humanitarian studies at UCL, civil engineering, operating department practice and I think science and engineering for social change? So yeah don’t look at mine for inspiration lol I knew that either global humanitarian studies or GHSM was the one I def wanted to do, the rest were kind of fillers, but when you’re 18 and you don’t really have an idea of what path to take. I’d say stick with this course and choose a mix of biomedical and maybe if there’s any other interdisciplinary courses…

omg yea ik what you mean the uk system is messing me up - i went from wanting to do medicine to history and politics and trying to fit vastly different courses into one personal statement but not really knowing what to do. glad it all worked out for you! 🙂
