Applying to dental hygiene and therapy 🦷

I am nearly 22 years old and have been working as a dental nurse for the past 3/4years (2 years qualified) and I am wanting to start studying dental hygiene and therapy.
I have a health and social care diploma (D*), psychology A level (B) and biology A level (D) and my dental nurse qualification.
I am aware this would not be enough to be accepted on any hygiene course (due to my biology grade).
I am wanting to start an access course online to boost my chances….
Is there anyone that is/has been in a similar situation or anyone that has done an online access course and been accepted onto the hygiene course???
Some unis also state that they don’t accept online access courses?
Just wanted some advice and help as I’m not sure what to do next?
😊😊

The uni I applied to said that you could contact them to make sure the access course you pick was one they approved, and so I sent them the details before starting my access course. I've just applied so can't tell you if I'll be successful, but it won't be because of my access course because I know thats accepted. The uni I applied for specified how many grades you needed in biology, so there was a set number in biology that needed to be distinction and then the rest could be merits. If you contact the admissions team for the uni you're wanting to go too they should be able to give you direction. You could also get help from mature student support from the unis as you're over 21.

you have good grades minus the biology grade. The A- level biology resit takes only one year, you will have better chances of getting in compared to taking an access course.

Very similar situation as me. And I’ve just been offered an interview at Leeds. Go for an access course and my advice is to start now as moderation is in March 2026 and it’ll take you approx 12 months to complete. Message me for a referral code if ur interested in something like i think u get like £25 off the course lol.
