Help on a third A-level option

I start college in September and I’m set on doing maths and economics at A-level but i’m not too sure about my third option ,I was thinking about psychology or further maths but Idk which would fit better,I also don’t know what career path to go down so I want to keep my options open a bit for uni, any help is appreciated

Hi there!

I did Psychology at A-Level and then I went on to do it at university! I'm now in my third year at York St. John🤗. I think doing Psychology would be really valuable (even if I am slightly biased) as it would mean that you have an essay subject, which is something a lot of universities really value. It'll also just give you a break from numbers! Psychology has some statistics so it will overlap a bit, but not too much😊 It's also very broad and opens doors to social sciences and some humanities too.

Hi @Ozzyosa,

Maths and Economics are an excellent foundation for many careers. Let's try weigh out the benefits of your third option:

Further Maths: extremely challenging and specialised, good if you're passionate about mathematics and highly valued by top universities for quantitative degrees. In terms of career pathway, you would be looking at careers in: finance, engineering, data science and actuarial science.

Whereas for psychology: offers broader skill development, provides insights into human behaviour, develops research and analytical skills. Career pathways include: business, marketing, HR, consulting, research and possibly clinical pathways.

If you want maximum flexibility and aren't 100% sure about your career path, Psychology might be the better choice. It'll balance your quantitative subjects and keep more doors open. However, if you're mathematically gifted and enjoy complex problem-solving, Further Maths could be incredibly rewarding.

Best of luck, rooting for you!
