Work Experience Year 10

Hi, I am in year 10 in England and I am struggling to find a work placement that is in the film & tv sector. I live in a pretty small area, but any work experience i find online, you have to be 16+. I applied for Sky TV studios near me however I wasn't old enough. If anyone has suggestions or experience to share,I would be most grateful.Thank you.

Does your school not have a Careers advisor? Thats usually the person who supervises placements.

Good evening @cloclo09

It's great to hear you are trying to find work experience; work experience is key to building your future CV.

I have a few ideas you could potentially look into, although I am not 100% sure if they will have a successful outcome.

Screen Berkshire often offers young people courses and workshops. Similarly, Shinefiled studios often have community workshops that offer classes.

Pinewood Studios also offers early careers courses and apprenticeships.

Similarly, another great way to gain work experience is to email companies which have something to do with the industry you like, for example, acting classes or TV set makers. You can email all sorts of companies and ask for work experience, and eventually, you may get a placement. I often find smaller companies and family-run companies more likely to take on students as they like the extra help and don't have as much legal insurance to go through.

At the University of Reading, Film & Television degree courses are offered, and there are great connections with Sheffield Studios, which would allow you to undertake work experience once you are of university age.

I wish you all the best, and I hope you are able to find some work experience.

All the best,
Ella

thank you so much. These sound very interesting, but unfortunately they are too far from me. But thank you so much for giving me options for later on.
