Hiya!

I haven’t personally done the Paramedic Science interview at DMU, but I can share some insights based on their guidelines to help you prepare and also share the link to our interview advice guide 🙂

What to expect on the day

The interview will take place on Microsoft Teams and last about 30 minutes. It’s designed to assess your attitudes, beliefs, and values, while also giving you a chance to demonstrate your interest in the course and career. In particular, I would encourage you to have responses to why you want to study Paramedic Science, why you’ve chosen DMU, and your understanding of the role of a paramedic (I am presuming it would be very good to have responses for these questions)

How to prepare

Familiarise yourself with MS Teams

Make sure you’re comfortable using it before hand to avoid any technical issues. Test your equipment, making sure it’s fully charged, and find a quiet space for the interview where you will have no interruptions.

Review Your Personal Statement

Be ready to expand on what you’ve written, such as your motivations, relevant experiences, and what draws you to Paramedicine.

Read Widely About Paramedicine

Explore newspaper articles, journals, websites, or magazines related to healthcare and paramedics. This will help you demonstrate your knowledge and enthusiasm for the field. This is very relevant and something I am encouraged to do from lecturers when applying for jobs in the healthcare field after university

Practice Key Skills

As Paramedicine is not taught at school or college, you need to be able to demonstrate that you understand what the course/career entails. However, you will not be expected to have a detailed understanding of technical topics, don't worry. The discussions will give you the opportunity to demonstrate the skills needed by a Paramedicine student such as: ability to analyse information, solve problems, communicate effectively, and teamwork

Mock Interviews

Try and practice interviews with a teacher, careers adviser or even a friend or family member to get comfortable talking about yourself and your aspirations

Tips for the Day:

Dress smartly and present yourself professionally (yes, even though it's on teams!)

Listen carefully to each question and avoid giving one-word answers. Take your time to provide thoughtful responses.

If a question is unclear, it’s okay to politely ask for clarification or for it to be repeated

Be enthusiastic and show your passion for becoming a paramedic.

I hope this helps, if you do have any further questions you are more than welcome to get in contact with us on either of our staff lines such as enquiries or admissions. Or if you would like to get in contact with myself or other student ambassadors you can through this platform
