I want to become Christian but it's proving to be difficult

I want to follow God but my whole life my parents told me all of these things like, "the bible is the greatest story ever written," and "If God is real then why do we go through torment." I genuinely want to follow the religion but it's so difficult and I always have this doubt in the back of my mind.

Hiyaaa, I've been a Christian since before I was born, through my parents faith. I didn't have my own faith until around 3 years ago (when I was 14). It was the best decision I made. I'll tell you my knowledge on this through the Holy Spirit. Hope I can share some wisdom.

First thing first, the Bible is not just a story, it clearly shows how mankind repeatedly tries to run away from God, and God without fail keeps protecting us.

Second, torment is not made by God, the devil always tries to get us away from God, because he knows that if you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you, and washes your sins clean, he can't touch you anymore since you're protected by God. This guy (Cliffe Knechtle) explains it better than I do https://youtu.be/UkdJgYZYIvQ?si=7Mu9OhfyMwr_I3dt .

Third, Christianity is not a religion like most people say it is, it's a relationship with God. Religion has a system of rules and regulations (a list of Dos and Don'ts) meanwhile a relationship with God comes from the heart. It's personal and messy, like a friendship with your bestfriends. You can go to church every week without fail and still don't have a relationship with Jesus. It's like what Matthew 15:8 says "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me". Through a relationship of Jesus, you will recieve the free gift that he has for you. What's the free gift you may ask? The free gift is eternal life with Him. Now, eternal life does not mean you will live in this physical world forever, it's going to heaven with Him eternally when you die.

Fourth, following Christ is no easy task, especially in the beginning. The enemy will go after you as much as possible, and it's your choice if you want to give in to the devil, or stay devoted to the Lord. If you go with the Lord, He will give you protection from the enemy.

God is a gentleman, He will not barge into you if you don't want to. Some people ask "if God exist than why don't everyone just go into heaven?" and the answer is simple, if you don't want Him when you're on earth, He will not force you to want Him, and He will seperate Himself from you eternally, which means, hell. God is banging on the door to your heart right now, it's your choice if you want to let Him in or not.

If you do want Him into your heart right now, you can pray this prayer right now
"Heavenly Father, I come into Your holy presence recognizing that I am lost in my sin. I am in need of a Savior. I accept the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ who laid down His life for me. This day I choose to believe in Him and be completely forgiven. I allow Jesus to reign as Lord of my life forever. I follow His path and enter the Gate to eternal life which is Jesus Himself. I pray that I can receive your Holy Spirit, and let the Holy fire burn through me. Thank You for drawing me to Your kingdom. Thank You that I am now and forever Your child. Amen."

Now, you might not feel anything, or you feel His love and mercy through your body, whatever happens, you've invited the Lord into your heart, and He will work through your heart if you let Him. Keep on praying everyday and reading your Bible, you will feel transformation of the Lord inside out. If you miss one day of prayer or Bible reading, it's alright, don't get discouraged or stop completely, we're looking for consistency here, not perfection. If you're able to, you can also find a local church, or find an online church service on youtube to help you in your faith. However, be careful, because there's a lot of church that's not based on the Lord's teachings even though they claim to be, so let the Holy Spirit guide you to the right church for you. If you want recommendations, I recommend City Harvest Church, it's based in Singapore, but you can watch their online livestream service on youtube.

I hope I've given insights to the faith, and you're able to feel the love and grace of God. Update me when you made the choice, and you can ask me any other questions you have about faith in the Lord and I'll try to answer it with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Thank you very much, unfortunately, I don't have money for a bible but I go to bible study every Wednesday and Church every Sunday. I appreciate this as it makes it easier for me.

No-one is born a Christian, you must be born again / receive the Holy Spirit, as detailed in the bible (see Acts 2v4, 33; 10:44-48). That means expecting God to do the necessary when there is nothing you want more . . . is there anything you want more?

If not, good! Contact your nearest group that believes this, you can go out of the meeting a Christian in the true sense.

Like any job, it's easy when you know how! Many "churches" don't!

No worries, you can read the bible online through a website, or download a bible app. I reccomend Olive Tree Bible app. I'm not sure if you're new to following Jesus or not, but if you're confused which translation of the Bible you should read, I really reccomend NLT if you're at the beginning stages. And also, people such as Cliffe Knechtle and his son Stuart Knechtle really helps me when I was starting to believe God in my own faith. He has a youtube channel, you can just search his name on youtube. Hope you can stay in this track with God, and may you grow the fruit of the Spirit

Being a Christian doesn't mean that life will be easy, for there will be times of difficulties aso. God has given people free will and mankind has made their choices how to live and the effects we bare as well. The world we live in is not meant to be for us on earth infinite without an end, for there will come a time it will end as well as we know it. Till that time there wiill be challenges on earth as well and that is natural-see Matthew 24 in the New Testament to understand this more.

God is perfection and whole with this. He is always righteous and sometimes may appear to some as harsh, but sometimes as creator you need to be as well. Jesus promised to send his believers a comformter as well. This makes life easier to bare for sure and I am a witness to this as well, for me my life life I couldn't have coped without it. Baptism leads to the awakening of a deeper spiritual life as well, so you may have challenges in the world but are spiritually strong and gives you so much stability in this often crazy. God has been a loving father to me and has given me healing and gifts in my life I could have never have imagined or known of before

Read wisely as well as not everything on Google is true, so be careful of your sources and think about may be buying a Bible of your own if you haven't and communicating in prayer if you choose to do so.
