It's the course that matters so if you don't want to study business and management, don't pick Lancaster. You don't need to make this decision until June so attend the applicant/offer-holder days in Spring for both unis, look through the course modules in detail, and compare placement opportunities. A placement will add a lot to your graduate CV. The ranking of your uni won't make any difference to your employability.

Hey @Apit2006 !!

I am currently a 2nd year studying business, so I can tell you about the course. I would say that business offers a wide range of job opportunities since the course covers so many subjects. At the university I go to (Northeastern University London), we cover marketing, finance, management, and other business courses. When I was applying for internships my first year, I felt that I had more options as the course allowed me to studying different fields. However, if you know for a fact that you want to study finance, then study finance. As a current uni student, I cannot emphasize how important it is to study what you are passionate about. If finance is your passion, you will find work opportunities within and outside of your university. I hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi @Apit2006
I would recommend looking at the types of modules you could expect to study on the Lancaster business and management course and compare these to the UEA finance course, to see which modules you are most intrested in. In terms of Lancaster, I've been studying here for 4 years and have loved my time here as the university has such a community feel due to the college system which is nice. In terms of employability, the Lancaster career service are great in offering lots of support throughout your degree in terms of help looking for graduate jobs, placements and part time work. They run lots of different workshops throughout the year covering a range of topics from LinkedIn to assessment center prep, and also help with CV writing and careers guidance.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask!

Hi there,

Choosing UEA for your Finance course is a strong decision, as it not only allows you to study your desired subject but also offers a fantastic student experience and excellent career prospects. UEA’s School of Economics has a great reputation for practical, industry-focused education, preparing students for a range of careers in finance, banking, and business.

The university provides great employability support through its award-winning CareerCentral, which offers tailored advice, placement opportunities, and connections with employers in various sectors. UEA also encourages hands-on experience through internships, and the Year in Industry option can give you an edge when applying for competitive roles after graduation.

Norwich, where UEA is based, is a vibrant city with a growing financial sector. It’s also more affordable than larger cities, so your money goes further while still giving you access to real opportunities. The campus itself is a supportive, inclusive environment with state-of-the-art facilities and an active student community.

While rankings can be a factor, the ability to study your dream course at a university known for its student satisfaction and employability support is invaluable. UEA’s focus on developing well-rounded graduates means you’ll leave with the skills and experience that employers truly value. If Finance is your passion, UEA could be the perfect fit.

Let me know if you have any questions about life or opportunities at UEA!

Best,

Hi @Apit2006 🙂
Firstly, well done on your offers!
I'd highly recommend not getting a degree in a course you do not enjoy. You will lack motivation to study for it, and overall your uni experience won't be great.
Doing a course you enjoy means you will actually put in effort and, more likely, get better marks academically.
Another thing to bear in mind is your desired career. Is there a specific career path you want to go down? If so, make sure you can still do it using whatever course you end up choosing.
I know UEA's Business School hosts multiple events and schemes for undergraduates to expand their employability skills, etc... as well as other schemes for graduates. I believe students on the Finance courses can also access this, as well as the helpful career central scheme, which is for all UEA students in many different career paths.

Overall, no one can decide for you, so do think about it thoroughly, but make sure you take into account multiple factors, not just the rankings!
I hope this helps, let me know you have any questions! 🙂
