Hiii, I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to revise for English language.

I don’t understand how to do the Q2 on both papers and I can’t write Q5 properly either I’m not sure what to do. I want to get a grade 8 at least, I used to be able to but now I’m working at grade 5 and 6 ✋😭.

And I’ve heard that your supposed to come in with a story for Q5 on P1 already prepared if that’s true does it work and how did you make your plan 😭🫶

I don't know what exam board you're doing, so I'm not sure how to exactly help you with 'Q2', but I can definitely give you some advice on a story. I got a 9 in my Lang, doing Eduqas, and the secret is to create an extended metaphor. Create an interesting story that ends with something that's surprisingly different e.g. one of my prepared stories was about a shop-lifter, and I revealed this at the end, but throughout my story, my shop-lifter was a rabid beast. To remember my stories (I personally only wrote 2 and found that that worked fine for me) I recorded myself saying them and on the day of my exam, I listened to the recording on REPEAT. It was crazy how well this worked, we don't realise how much we take in without noticing it. I found that my story just came out as I was writing in my exam.

Tysmmmmm this is acc so helpfullll 💕💕💕💕im doing aqa, basically q2 is an 8 marker abt how the writer uses language for a desired purpose or wtv in paper 1 but paper 2 is abt similarities vs differences in the two extracts we get given on the day 😭🫶.

You could try YouTube, there are some videos about how to structure your answers on there and exemplars on the exam website

I got 4 marks of full marks in my story. Have a story planned in your head before your enter the exam. Make that story adaptable to the question. Make sure you include all literacy devices ( list them out and tick of as you go) make a cyclical structure, use speech, use different sentence lengths, use a list , use a range of vocabulary. If you need anything message me. Im also dyslexic and managed this so nothing is stopping you to.

Motivation frfr tyyy 😭🫶, how did u manage to make an adaptable story though thats smth I can’t do liek if I make a story in the spot it’s not good enough either but I don’t want the plan to be so vague that it’s not got anything interesting inside for the examiner to award me marks 😭😭😭

tbh my story is nothing amazing. My template is over 30-45 mins where i describe my character doing something in extreme detail whilst making the plot semi-decent.

example:

start:
all was quiet when
boy walks from road into big house ( describe from road to ring of doorbell)


middle
boy goes inside house ( describing inside house/ what you can see / smell / taste / hear )


end

goes into basement / cupboard never to be seen again . ( describe how it happens etc)

and quiet was restored...

I'm in y10 and we just did our mock (only paper 1 and we haven't looked at paper 2 yet) and I was 2 mark off a 9. I did a description for Q5 and got 33/40 (although the image we got was really good). I focussed on coming up with useful phrases and vocab for different things (eg. description of trees in different moods). For question 2 I struggled but got 7/8 and honestly I'm not sure how so I can't help you there 😭

like have you never done it in class before - I would have had no clue what I was doing if we hadn't😭 we did a couple before our mock. my English teacher said always do a description because it's harder to go off topic. there are probably some example answers online.

you don’t need to be taught. watch mr bruff / mr salles on youtube.

when your write it before on the side of the page you need to write down every literacy device u can think of eg simile , metaphor .

and make sure you use them all in the story the more the better and use different punctuation and sent event structures and you’ll get a 7 and up.

Valid point: Read the text and find the moral / point. I then find words which emphasis this or have some relations to it. Eg about death - knife = death imagery which links to the tome etc. When we talk about analysing in depth we mean multiple layers of interpretation so you’re gunna need to practice that. watch videos and read grade 9 examples and then if u have any more questions private message me!
