UCL gcses acceptance

Hi! So I wish to apply to UCL on contextual offer basis for International Relation’s and Politics. However, I feel my gcses aren’t good enough to get in. I’ve got ‘6s’ in 5 subjects ‘8s’ in English and Maths and ‘9s’ in 2 subjects. Is it possible to possibly get an offer from them? (especially if my predicted are quite high)

Hi! I think you should definitely apply if your A-levels meet or exceed the requirements, as I think those would probably matter more. I recently got an offer for chemistry even though I got a 7 at chem for gcse, so just make sure you meet the gcse requirements too. Good luck!!!

You have better GCSE results than me and I'm a current UCL student (different department) so it seems entirely plausible...

Don't think UCL is very fussed about GCSEs if you meet the English language/maths minimum requirements.

I'm in the faculty of arts and humanities. I think focusing on what grades other people got at GCSE isn't really a productive use of time. But I didn't even get any A* grades at GCSE (before the 1-9 format) and your lowest grades are higher than what my lowest grades were. Also bear in mind most universities consider 8 and 9 grades as equivalent to the old A* grade.

Realistically unless you're applying to many courses Oxford, some courses at LSE, or some med/dental courses, GCSEs tend to not be an overriding consideration for universities.

Ah Thanks! At gcses I got 7s in maths eng lang, bio and chem, rest I got 8s and 2 9s. But I think english and maths matter more and you did better than me so I’m sure it’s fine. My predicted at A-level are A*bio A* spanish and A in chem. I was surprised I even got an offer as they prefer maths as a third subject. Good luck with your application!!

I got an offer from UCL with majority 7s 6s and a 8. As long u meet the minimum gcse requirements usually 6 in eng and maths or 4 in both depending on the course , my preds were A*A*A so I think u should deffo apply ur ps plays a huge role asw especially for top unis so they can differentiate between candidates.Goodluck !
