York St John Speech and Language Therapy (Pre-Registration) MSc

Hi all! I am currently working as a teacher and am looking to retrain as an SLT. My background is in languages so I think I qualify for the master's route. Due to various family circumstances, the MSc at York St John would be ideal location-wise, but I can find very little about it online. Reading a few TSR posts, it would seem that this is because the course is fairly new, so it might be a long shot, but if you are studying for this particular MSc, I'd love to hear what you think of it.

If not, then more broadly - if you are a postgrad student studying at York St John, how are you finding it? Do the courses tend to be well-organised? Would love to know any and all details.

Hi!

I went to an interview for this course at York St John on Wednesday this week. It is a brand new course so September 2025 would be the first cohort. It was a really lovely day.

It seemed in general that students in the more established allied health courses at YSJ seemed happy with the uni. We had a tour around their new health simulation labs, and it looks like they are putting a lot of funding towards it.

Hi!

I am a current linguistics undergrad student at YSJ and have recently applied for the MSc Speech and Language Therapy course.

The lack of information is due to it being one of 4 new health courses starting September 2025 at YSJ. This doesn't mean it will be underprepared or of a lower standard - the vice chancellor of the university is a SLT and therefore is encouraging the best from this programme.

Additionally, as I already study here at YSJ I had the opportunity to speak with Shona the head of the MSc course - she is a qualified SLT herself and was very helpful and enthusiastic in answering any questions.

I love YSJ as a university, for me the smaller campus and fewer students is a great asset - it means that your lecturers are available for 1-to-1 tutorials multiple days a week. The university itself is great and has all the facilities I've needed over the last three years, with state of the art healthcare facilities for allied health courses that will definitely be of use on the MSc SLT course.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask - if I don't know the answer I will try my best to find out!

Hey! Thanks so much for this. It's great to hear that you got a good vibe from the uni and other allied health course students. Best of luck with your interview outcome, am really hoping I get one!

I definitely recommend applying. I got an offer to study, so perhaps see you in September if you do decide to go for it. The interview day was a great experience.
