Goldsmiths Art Psychotherapy 2025

I applied for MA Art Psychotherapy at Goldsmiths for 2025 entry, and I'm feeling very anxious to hear back from them.
It would be really nice to connect with others also applying to the course!

(I sent off my application 2 weeks ago, but haven't heard anything yet!)

I am in the process, of completing my application to send off. It's the personal statement that I am really struggling with. One question, I've been struggling on the word count for this. I haven't applied for something like this in a LONG while. How many words did you do for your statement? On the online form it's like 2,000 max for each section. Really scared that I am under/overdoing it on the world count. If you have any advice for the statement it'd be so so helpful. Hope you get in!

Hi:smile: I wrote about 1000 words in total. On goldsmiths' art psychotherapy page it says the statement should be two pages, so I just went along with that. I roughly followed the guideline on their website too:

Your reasons for wanting to study the degree

What you feel you can offer to the profession of art therapy

A brief summary of the rationale of your past and current art practice

A short account of your experiences in relevant work experience

Your thoughts about planning your course of study, with details of things such as time management, how you will secure any necessary study leave, and how you plan to fund your studies/support yourself financially

And I think if you've had experiences with therapy yourself, it's good mention it too! Just be authentic, you've got this!
Hope we both get in <3

Okay! Amazing, I've written like 1,500 words and it's hitting like a 3 and bit pages and I've only gotten to the fourth point. Definitely, need to trim quite a fair bit and add about personal therapy too.

Also, sorry to bombard you - but how did you answer the question of securing study leave? I assume, you would speak to your tutor or course leaders to notify about study leave. I have inattentive ADHD (ADD) as well so I guess consulting with student support and tutors would also be something to mention too.

My brain makes it harder to consolidate things in a concise manner without blabbing on and on - so this has been so helpful! Have you heard anything back from them yet?

Also, with that last point - I'm just a bit confused about how to approach about planning the course of study. Definitely mentioning getting disability support for ADHD and finding a psychodynamic therapist for the course who has experience with neurodiversity. But do they want a detail on how you'd plan your week specifically with weekly planning (studio days, lectures, therapy once/twice a week)

hi there! I agreeeee it's so good to talk to someone going through the same process, the same stress! and yes i think it's a good idea to trim it to 2 pages.

I've only just realised when I was writing my reply to you yesterday that I completely forgot to write about the last bullet point in my own statement! I was really stressed and was getting a bit lost in the editing process, and somehow it just completely flew over me. I wasn't sure about what they mean exactly by "study leave", it's quite vague, so it's quite tricky to write about. Your ideas are really good!! I think they want us to show that we've thought deeply about the commitment of studying at an MA level, that we have time management skills, and also have solid plans for realistic challenges like financing. you've got this!💞

I got an interview invitation today, it's in 3 weeks' time!
good luck with your application <3

Congratulations in getting the interview! How did it go? Also, just got an offer for an interview this morning and have my interview next week. If there's any tips you can share that would be amazing

I haven’t done this course, but an ex tutor of mine did and she really rated this masters highly. Always spoke so positive of her experience there 🤗
