Hi there,

The city is so amazing, in my opinion it is the best place to be a student. Most of the uni buildings are just north of city center (like a 10 min walk) and where most of the students live (particularly after first year) is Cathays, which is right next to the main buildings (libraries, students’ union etc.) and also like a 15 min walk to city centre. Theres an amazing range of shops, restaurants, and new developments going on.
In terms of nature, theres bute park, and Alexander gardens which are again about a 10 or less minute walk from uni main buildings. Theres Cardiff bay, which has a lovely range of restaurants and cafes and a barrage walk along the water, and penarth which is beautiful. Theres roath park with a lovely lake! Then a bit further out of cardiff lots of people go to beaches, theres a waterfall walk, and hike up pen-y-fan.
Its very friendly, lively, and something for everyone, especially with the students’ union. The students’ union also often organise excursions out of cardiff for walks and or city day/weekend breaks!

I hope this is helpful, and any other questions please let me know!

Hi Grace,
I am a prospective 2025 students for MSc psychology. I have accepted and confirmed my place, however not yet enrolled as it’s not available to do so yet. Could you give me any guidance on finding reading lists for the course? Thank you

Hello!

Yay congratulations, amazing news! Great to hear you are so keen and ready to go. If I remember correctly they will send a suggested reading list to you around June/July time, so don't stress now. But it could be useful in the mean time if you want to just stay up to date with current psychology news online, I find this can be useful to get your head in the game, and maybe will be useful for applying what you will learn to relevant stories/events, and will be useful for bringing in examples in essay writing.
Hope this is helpful, any other questions about moving to uni/cardiff or anything please let me know :smile:

@edhew01

Hello 🙂 I've just finished my MSc Psychology conversion, and I've heard lovely stuff about Cardiff. May I recommend a book by Coolican called 'Statistics and Research Methods in Psychology' it really is an essential read.

If anyone in the forum is interested in a 100% online option for an MSc Psychology conversion which is fully registered with the BPS which is really important, I did mine at Arden and had a great time. There are also blended learning options in London, Leeds, Birmingham and a few other cities.
