Is Oxford nice to international students?

Are international students in Oxford happy to be there?

I definitely am not happy to be here...I would say people from Europe (especially more to the east, with whom I have a lot of contact) usually regret going to Oxford. There will for sure be some that will argue for the opposite view, I may have simply not encountered them. I believe that for the Asian student community it is slightly easier as they make up a large percentage of the international population which makes it easier to find friends and people with similar experiences.

@Stiffy Byng can offer insight from her years at Wadham College, Oxford?! 😉

That was a billion years ago, and anecdotes are not data.

I add that the question as posed is unanswerable. Oxford isn't a monolithic entity. It's neither nice nor nasty. The university is made up of faculties, colleges, and people. The experience of any student, international or domestic, will depend on the human interactions which the student has. Some will have a good time, others won't. Like any institution, the constituent parts of Oxford may be functional or dysfunctional.

I’m an international student at St Hugh’s. It’s a very inclusive and friendly college and I’m happy here. I don’t know of anyone who regrets coming here due to people not being nice. With that being said, as Stiffy pointed out, your mileage may vary. I think that people are generally nice but it’s not impossible that you may also meet people who aren’t nice. There are unpleasant people everywhere.
