Mature student returning to study

Hi,
I previously studied at Brighton University in 2009 and received student finance for my 3 year BA(hons)course.

I have applied and been offered a place to study at the University of Brighton on a 1 year PGCE course starting in 2025.
I would like to know if I will be eligible to receive student funding again?

You should do since PGCE is a postgrad qualification and you haven't done a postgrad yet.

Hi there,

Yes, so long as you don't already hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) you'll be entitled to funding regardless of your previous study.

PGCEs that lead to QTS are exceptions.

Hi Graeme,
Thanks for your response.
I am a British citizen but I've lived in Asia as a 'temporary resident' for the last 8 years, will this have an affect on the funding available to me?
Thanks

Hi Non,

When will you move back to the UK and would you have evidence that your break in residency was only temporary?

Thanks, Drew
Hi Drew,
I will move back to the UK in July/August 2025. I have evidence in the form of Temporary residence cards/Visa, work contracts and housing contracts. I already had to submit these to the university admissions team so they could complete a fee assessment. Would this be enough?
Thanks for your time .

Hi there,

When applications open for 25/26, you would need to apply and send proof your time outside the UK was temporary. What you have mentioned sounds fine but you would need to send this so the team can review this and confirm if it's been accepted or not.

Keep checking our website and social media for further updates on 25/26 applications opening.

Thanks,
Claire
