Maths, History and...

For A levels I definitely want to do maths and history. I then am going to take 2 other subjects and likely drop 1 of them around october.

It's a toss up between biology, chemistry and computer science

I didn't do computer science at gcse and im wondering whether a levels usually tend to assume gcse knowledge or whether they go through things again.

Biology I enjoy do very well in and got a 9 in my last mock (usually 8+)

Chemistry I do also enjoy but I find it a bit more difficult to get my head around. I got a 6 and 7 in my last 2 mocks which I wasn't massively happy with but my teacher is always very pleased with how I'm working and she says I'm at around an 8 and can definitely get that in the real thing provided I put in work.

After speaking to my Chemistry teacher about the jump from a level she said that actually it's not huge, you just go into more detail, although of course this will require more work outside of school as all a levels do. Previous to this, when looking on forums it seems like people make the jump out to be huge, I have a great teacher though so I don't know if she'd be wrong about that so I'd like to know how it actually is.

Also I'm not sure about what degree or career I want to do.

Thank you!!

Do you have any ideas, however vague, about what you might want to do with these A levels?

Its worth looking at some different Uni websites to check which A level subjects are either essential or preferred for any degree subjects that interest you. Examples :
Undergraduate subject areas - University of Birmingham
Undergraduate Courses, Degrees : Study : University of Sussex

This often throws up some surprises. As an example, for a Comp Sci degree you do not need to have taken it at A level - the essential subject is actually Maths - and for many social science / humanities subjects, including Law, there are no preferred A level subjects at all.

Hi,
I currently do history, chem and maths a levels. Similarly I don’t know what to do so chose then to keep options open, an essay writing alevel but also could do stem with two sciences! I like chemistry but think it does get easier as it goes in!
Hope this helps

I had thought about a computer science degree without the a level but I'm still considering the a level because I feel like that's making it unnecessarily hard for me. To clarify, computer science isn't my only interest. I would like to do game development or something but I've heard it's very hard to get a job in that

I do history biology and maths, I used to do chemistry but swapped it for history in December. Best decision ever. Chemistry was horrible and brought me to tears every night but that’s just me- I think the jump is huge. If you enjoy biology and do well in it definitely pick that, it’s still challenging but much more manageable. It’s all down to you though if you want to do chemistry then go for it
