Heyy I am currently in year 12 and am considering a course in management and marketing in Uni and I really want to go to the University of Bath. Does anyone have any advice about the course in general or the university

I'm not a fan of management and marketing courses in general.

I have done a joint management degree before, so I can probably give you a few pointers on it.

In terms of the uni, Bath is probably one of the best for business even though it's not Russell Group (which apparently means very little if you don't go into academic research).
The thing that annoys me a bit is that none of Bath's degrees are CIM accredited: https://www.cim.co.uk/qualifications/cim-accredited-degree/

Let me know if you want my input on this.

Oh Okay thanks as you said "I'm not a fan of management and marketing courses in general." for someone who wants to either run there own business or work in marketing what would you think is a good course

Also what does it mean if the course isn’t CIM accredited? Would it mean that its not recognised by employers as much or is it just not as good?
Bath - windswept concrete campus, costs as much to live there as London, full of middle-class students, helps if you like team sports.

Hi there,

Regardless of what anyone else says, you are the best judge of what is best for you, where you want to go and where you want to be in future. I would say that:

1.

Bath has one of the top places in the major league tables for its School of Management and has recently been given a TEF triple-gold certificate for teaching quality, and so I'm confident you'll have a very good educational experience should you choose it

2.

We also have one of the best and most established industrial placement schemes in the UK, which would add its weight in gold to your graduate management CV and is also a good chance to do something fun, different and earn some money.

3.

Bath is a very safe city, recently ranked the second safest in the UK in terms of crime rates. The cost of living may be higher than other cities but the wages in Bath are also higher than other cities. Its cosy, beautiful, and is full of vibrancy, green spaces with plenty of shops, street food stalls and georgian architecture.

The best thing you can do is to visit Bath in the flesh as well as any other unis you are interested in to compare it, in terms of the course, the city/campus and the general vibe of the place. Talk to students, talk to lecturers, walk around and see if you feel at home there. Remember that this is your personal decision and whilst others can advise and help you this is your life and your future and so you are the best judge.

I hope this helps!

Hi again!

Sure, Target Bath is a really great thing to do if you decide you want to do it - I was on Pathways to Bath when I was in Sixth Form and honestly, seeing the uni in the flesh and meeting some lecturers and getting a feel for the place changed my mind from not wanting to go to uni at all to applying to Bath!

If you want to ask any questions to current students then we have a Unibuddy feed (many unis have this - its like a higher education WhatsApp). We also host campus tours most saturdays, but as we're an open campus you are more than welcome to visit the campus and do a self-guided tour or take a look around whenever you wish.

As with most unis there is a lot more to do here than just studying. Yes, we're very proud of our sporty reputation but that's by far not all - there are plenty of people here who aren't into sports at all. We have over 150 societies you could get involved with to find people with similar interests to you (cultural/ethnic/faith, dance, music, fashion, illustration, duck appreciation, skateboarding, entrepreneurs - my favourite is the Tea Appreciation society, haha!) - so there is a lot of fun things to get involved with alongside your degree.

I hope this helps a bit but please shout if you want any more info about anything!
